Help me pick a house plan!

Ok which style would you pick?

In the back by the kitchen we are going to have a small deck area as well. I thought it was kind of strange to walk THROUGH a closet to get to the bathroom but he said he has done it before and people love it.

#2 has this little mud room with a coat closet that we will also add onto #1.

The P in the kitchen for #2 is for pantry.

Either one, I would be adding a small linen closet to the master bathroom.

I wouldn't want to walk through a closet to get to the bathroom.

I know!! I wish I could see it. . . isnt that strange? He kept pushing it saying it was fine. . . we would be the only ones to use that bathroom anyway.

Re: Help me pick a house plan!

i like #1! i don't think walking through a closet is so bad. think of Carries closet in SATC how it was connected to the bathroom. i think it would be pretty convenient!

Thanks everyone for looking and voting!

Every time I find a description of a walk in leading to the bathroom its some HUGE gorgeous closet and bathroom, which I am sure mine won't be LOL but I guess it will motivate me to keep the closet orderly!

Re: Help me pick a house plan!

I kind of like #2 because to me it has more character than #1.

If you like #1 I wouldn't worry too much about the walk through closet - they have really nice closet systems you can DIY (we are going to do our closets eventually) or if you have a bigger budget you can have someone come in and design something custom in there...I think if you did it right it could be a really nice closet/dressing area which is pretty cool...

Re: Help me pick a house plan!

We walk through our closet area to get to our bathroom from our room, it isn't that bad.

But we don't have a door on the closet, it is open. The his and hers closets did have bifold doors on them, but we took them off.

I think if you did a a set of pocket doors from the master to the closets, that would save some space of closet doors opening up.

The doors opening up in the master is bothering me....like they would hit the bed.

Re: Help me pick a house plan!

#1 !

Also, don't do double doors in your walk in closet. Instead, you can do an L shaped rod on one of the walls for more hanging space.

While I like the look of double doors, I hate that it takes away from so much wall space. It would be fine if your rooms were HUGE, but if wall space is an issue I would steer clear!

eta: My Mom's guestroom in her house has a walkthru closet to a bathroom. I don't have a problem with it at ALL! I will try to post a pic for you!

This is the best shot I have... She has rods on the left and right and straight back is the bathroom. It's her guestroom so it's empty...

The only thing I don't like in layout #1 is that the 1/2 bath is right next to the master bath...I would try to move the 1/2 bath...then I would prefer layout #1.

ETA: If he can move around the bathrooms then he can do anything obviously. Don't settle for anything!

Re: Help me pick a house plan!

i like #1 for the walk-in closet, but the double doors opening into the room are no good. I do like the size of the master bedroom more in #2. Basically #1 makes it feel more like a mater suite I guess.

Re: Help me pick a house plan!

I like #1 the best. I agree iwth the pp about the pocket door, such a great idea! With #2 I think you will regret not having the extra closet space his / her down the line. We only have 1 in our bedroom now and its not big enough for both of us, so DH puts his clothes in DS's closet until we get around to fixing that issue!

The only think I like better about #2 is the kitchen. I think I would reverse the kitchen and living room in #1. I find when I entertain everyone is in the kitchen even though ours is NOT big enough! Also not sure if you are doing a wall or banister by the stairs but if its an open banister, you can always put a sofa in front of it, but you cant really put much there if thats in the kitchen! KWIM

GL!

ETA: Also I woudl do without a built in pantry and just work a pantry into your cabinet design. If you build it in, it will limit your layout whereas if you do it within your cabinetry you have more options

I totally agree with this! Just have a pantry made out of your cabinets. We did this and I love it!

We bought my parents' house - this will be the upstairs and my parents will be downstairs. DH plans on taking out the indoor staircase in a few years, but I want to keep it in Chat Icon

Re: Help me pick a house plan!

#1 - friends of mine have a walk in closet they go through to there bathroom and it is fine because the closet is big a nice aisle to walk through. Remember it would only be you and your dh walking through the closet to the bathroom.

Re: Help me pick a house plan!

I like #1 since it has a walk in closet! I can't really picture what it would be like having to walk through it to the bathroom. Then again, I couldn't picture anything in our house and look how it came out.

I def. say #1 and I can't wait to see it!!!!!

Ooooooo and on SATC Carrie's walk-in closet had a bathroom connected to it!

Re: Help me pick a house plan!

looking at plan #1, you have to go through the closet to get to the 1/2 bath but the full bath is on the other side of that wall? shouldn't that be switched around so that you have a full bathroom (being that it's your master bedroom/bathroom) and the 1/2 bath should be where the full bath is?

does that make sense?
