Re: help me run a marathon
Congrats!! I ran LI Half yesterday. Isn't it the best feeling crossing the finish line!?!
Well I don't want to say its so easy because I haven't done it yet (NYC in November 2013) but the fact that you even want to try one a day after your half is HUGE because I thought I'd never want to run another half after my first and now I've done 6 in the last year and half .
I really think if you have a good training program and are diligent about your workouts, you can do a marathon, no doubt.
And yes, you can definitely live through a marathon!

yes, it was such a mix of emotions... from pride, to accepting i'm nuts, to joy, to fear.
i guess my brain is still wondering what the F is wrong with me trying to do all these things, knowing very well that i suck at physical activities lol

Congrats and of course you can. I love running them. Which are you running? Maybe we can plan some long training runs together :)

That's the funny thing---you don't actually suck at physical activities if you just ran a half! I always say, I can't do anything with "balls involved" because I don't have the best hand/eye coordination and always sucked at sports but running is something that you can do if you work at it. You may never win a marathon but 26.2 is something you work towards and can do, as long as you stay injury free.
You are not nuts! You like how your body feels when you challenge it and succeed at something you never thought was possible. Its amazing how mental a lot of running is, you set your mind out to do a marathon, you'll do it AND feel so f'ing accomplished after it.

Re: help me run a marathon
I feel the same way. I ran the LI half yesterday. I felt good yesterday; it was my second half and I hit a pr. I finally feel ready so I'm now training for my first full!! Its a little overwhelming, but I'm determined to do this. I just feel like you have to bite the bullet, and just do it!!! Just sign up and don't look back. At least that's what I'm doing!!
You can do this!!!!!!! With the right training, I feel anyone can!!

HELP!
yes you totally can! i started with half marathons and decided after that it was possible to do a full. i never run them to be fast or anything but to just finish and it is the best feeling ever. i've done 6 full marathons and hope to someday do another one or two more. i followed Hal Higdon's beginner plan for my first marathon and thought it was perfect for me. it does require dedication and time but in the end it is a worthy accomplishment. long runs are the most important and you just build them up over time making it possible to complete the 26.2 the most i run before any of my marathons is 20 miles...the 6 miles after was pure blood, sweat, and tears but possible when you're in the race and your body just does it. good luck!!!

help me run a marathon
thanks everyone.
looks like completing one of these races messes with your head a little. as proud and accomplished as i was feeling, i was also feeling so weak and unworthy of a full marathon... i guess watching the marathon leaders and how quickly and effortlessly they run didn't help much... wow! are they fast.
i've decided not to decide anything for two weeks. i'm going to nurse my knee and do gentle walking for these two weeks. then, the sunday after mother's day i will decide what i'll do and how i'll do it.
maybe i'll switch training plans and concentrate more on knee care and nutrition.
wow! i can't believe i've even come this far... it is pretty cool!

help me run a marathon
You can totally do it! After being sedentary most of my young life and being told to NEVER run due to problems with my hips, I decided to become a runner. I've done 3 HM, a bunch of 10ks, 5ks, 2 overnight relay races, trail races and 1 ridiculous slow, painful and amazingly awesome full marathon. I even convinced my Mom to start running and last year, at 61, she completed her 1st half marathon (I was supposed to do it with her, but I ended up pregnant with complications, so I had to sit it out).
I'm still hoping to get back to distance running now that DD is 5mo old, but I'm finding it hard to find the time, plus I'm just so slow compared to before. But I am determined. I figure, if I learned how to run once, I can do it again.
Good luck and have fun training, whatever you decide to do!
