Help! My son bit someone twice at day care this week..

I received a phone call from my sons day care (tutor time) that he bit a little girl on the arm today. My DS is 2.5 years old and has been going to this day care for almost 6 months now without a single incident. He is loved there, gets along well with others, doesnt cry there, listens to his teachers, helps clean up, etc. On monday they said the teachers backs were turned to the kids and he bit a little boy on the arm. Now today they called and said he bit a little girl on the arm and it was unprovoked. This is twice in one week. My concerns are: He doesnt do this at home to me or my DH. He is not an aggressive child, just the opposite, sweet and shy. His speech has come a long way at home, hes talking all the time now but in school he doesnt utter a word. I just put in for a speech eval. How do I handle this biting this week. Why all of a sudden this week. There hasnt been a single problems for the past 6 months at school. Im so disappointed in my DS but also so confused as to why this is happening. When I talked to my DS he put his head down and cried. Any advice or thoughts would be so appreciated! Thanks for listening.

ahh, a biter. I know its so hard to understand why they do it. My son has bitten a couple of times, never consistently, and will turn around and be completely sweet to the same child the next minute. This week, he bit the hardest he has ever bitten....but he bit HIMSELF. he had a full set of marks on his arm for the whole week. I wish I knew the answer to this. Fo rme, it seems like when DS gets really hypes up and excited when playing is when he strikes.Chat Icon

How do they know it was unprovoked if their backs were turned? And WHY were their backs turned??

This is the first question that popped into my head. How many teachers are in the room?
If he bit earlier in the week, one of the teachers should have been "keeping an eye" to see why he's doing it.

I used to work in daycare. A simple thing like the other child took a toy away would get the "biter" upset and then the bite would be attempted.
