Not at all! Sesame is run by the same parent company as Busch Gardens and SeaWorld- and they are all ridiculously clean and well run!

Thanks for posting this. DH is a cop - works with cops - and their perception of nice vs. not nice (i.e. ghetto) is VERY different than most people's. I honestly HATE that DH can be so critical of things he has no idea what he's talking about. I want to go to SP, no matter how awful it might be.... it's all about DS having fun. DH really doesn't want to go based on experiences from other cops' family trips. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I hope more of you can help convince him it's not as bad as he thinks.

Just to give you perspective: DH thinks people hanging around Ralphs Italian Ice at 9pm on a Friday in July is ghetto.... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Makes no sense to me - that's what people do! But to him, it's ghetto...

Chat Icon I have to laugh cause my DH is a cop too and I feel the SAME way about him.
He told me the other day that some co-workers told him that Hershey Park is ghetto lately too. Chat Icon
I really think being a cop ruins your whole perspective on life or soemthing! They are an odd bunch! Chat Icon

hahah i just posted the same thing about Hershey!!

Haven't gone to SP yet.. will let you know in Aug W/my cop DH.. .Just went to hershey and there is no way it is gettto or dirty

Hershey is the cleanest park I have ever since

Not at all! I thought it was very nice and clean and well worth the trip.
However, my dad said when we were kids, that was not the case. He was shocked at how nice it was when we took our kids because when him and my mom took my sister and me as kids, it was gross he said.

Most def not ghetto. We've been twice and its been nothing but clean each time. We have not had a bad experience at all. I don't know why people say this.

I was just there, didn't feel it was totally ghetto but I do get kinda skeeved with the food court areas-they can't keep up with the demands, and its not as clean as i would like. I did think the park itself was clean. I also think that the parade brings out the worst in people-everyone is so rude and pushing and not monitoring their children at all IMO.

Ghetto! We HATED it last year. It was small, skanky, overrun, understaffed, and flat out.........not a good time. I will NEVER go back, there are SO many better places to vacation. I thought Sesame was a total waste of money!

Edit - We were there last summer. (July 2010)

I was pizzed that they didn't open the gates at the posted time, 10 am, there was a good crowd and it was several minutes past ten when they openedChat Icon

Of course I picked the worst line behind a woman trying to bring in 6 kids w/ season passes which the park refused to accept. From what I could over hear she seemed to be using other people's passes which come to think of it is kind of ghetto.

It's not super dirty, but it lacks the nice landscaping etc of the other parks. For example, the area you float by in the lazt river wasn't particularly attractive and was sort of bare in many places.

We haven't been in 2 years, but it wasn't "ghetto" to me. I always find bathrooms nasty in places like that (even a lot of regular restaurants) so that wasn't anything out of the ordinary to me.

I have only been there once (2 summers ago) and the place was SPOTLESS. We had a great experience.

I don't think Sesame Place itself is ghetto. The park itself is an amazing place for little ones. The facilities are great and kept in good shape. DS looooooooves it there.

That being said, a lot of people who go there do seem ghetto.

This makes me laugh - my dad is a retired cop and I totally understand what you mean how they think things are ghetto and their views are just so different than others.
That being said - you could not pay me to ever go to Sesame Place or even worse....that Great Wolf Lodge Place.
Don't know if they are ghetto but they are in my mind and the thought of them just utterly skeeves me out to no end.
Something about an indoor water park (Great Wolf) that just makes me CRINGE!!!

Re: Help settle this debate: Sesame Place = ghetto or no?

When I went to SP 3 years ago it def was not ghetto. Great Adventure, yes, SP no. I thought it was really nice, not overcrowded and well kept. I do not like crowds though, so we avoided things like the parade and lunch with Elmo.

And I'm just curious, for the DHs that are cops, where do THEY find it acceptable to go on vacation?

Re: Help settle this debate: Sesame Place = ghetto or no?

been to GA tons of times....zero problems.

where was I robbed at??? magic kingdom!!
put backpack down for a second to put sweatshirt on and it was taken in a freaking second!
DW sent it back to me a month later, empty, after it was found in a trash can.
Whoever did it was a pro. it was literally a second.

Re: Help settle this debate: Sesame Place = ghetto or no?

We went to Sesame in the beginning of June before it was officially the "season" (package prices are lower erc.).

We went on a Thur and Fri. Thur the park was immaculate. I couldn't believe how clean the pools were- the bathrooms, etc. There were people there but I wouldn't call it "crowded"- we only waited maybe 5 minutes at each attraction of at all.

Fri had a lot more people but I'm sure it still wasn't even close to what the end of June brings. ANyway, I could already see a difference in cleanliness. The baby wave pool had nastiness floating and we got out asap. It just went to show how quickly things went downhill when there was a larger influx of guests.

I would DEF go again- we had a great time- but I would do it again at the very beginning before summer even officially starts b/c I can imagine that it gets gross there.

I would never say it is ghetto. But there is a big difference on a weekday vs weekend. We will never again go on a weekend.

I agree. We like it and are going this week but some of the people are a little trashy. That could be the case anywhere though.

I took it as low budget/ crappy/ I guess dirty- but I don't think it was a great word choice b/c imo it can easily come off as meaning something racial.

I wasn't using "ghetto" in terms of race.... it's more about the overall feel. I think everyone interpreted it the way I meant it. It's about the quality of the place, cleanliness, and "type" of crowd it might attract. Are the people rude, loud, obnoxious, "trashy", and just not a family fun crowd.... DH thinks that it attracts very unruly people (of ALL races) in addition to the physical place itself not being clean.
