Help with Boston
If you only had one night or two nights in Boston:
Best place to stay that is close and walking distance to lots to see and do? Not too expensive as we plan on just sleeping there and being busy seeing the city the entire time.
Best things to see in a 36 hour time period?

Re: Help with Boston
I would stay in the South Boston/South End section but everything is pretty close by once you get in that area. You could always book a hotel and then just taxi there. Here are some things I would do, I go on weekends up there all the time.
-Faneuil Square - Quincy Market for some grub -Walk the Freedom Trail or take a trolley/duck-boat tour -They have a nice aquarium if you're into that. -Sam Adams Brewery -Harpoon Brewery -Boston Tea Party Museum -Boston Common
Its a really cute city, I love just walking around, stopping into a pub or bar here and there and having a drink. My first time I took a trolley and got off at different interest points. Good way to explore the city. I haven't explored the North End yet but I've heard good things about Little Italy - maybe dinner plans there?
Heads up - parking is extremely pricey and difficult. If you're driving, buy parking ahead of time.

We did Trillium Brewing as well and you can take a tour of Fenway Park that we loved.

Help with Boston
-Stop by Top of the Hub for a drink a nice view - Stop by the Lookout rooftop bar at the Envoy Hotel -Wander around the North End and get a cannoli -Commonwealth Ave. is beautiful for a stroll, and at one end of it you'll find the Public Garden, also definitely worth visiting - Walk around Beacon Hill
And i'm sure i'm forgetting a million other things (in addition to what the previous posters have said)
So i live in downtown Boston and I would not suggest staying in the South End. It's a fine area, but not really considered Boston Proper. It's largely residential and you will almost definitely have to uber/cab anywhere since the T isn't readily available. Same with South Boston, it's not where i'd choose to stay - with the exception of the Seaport district of South Boston which is brand new and on the water. I'd suggest staying in Back Bay, downtown or waterfront neighborhoods of Boston proper. Have fun!!!

All of this. I would like to add there is a great view from the Prudential Center. They also have underground parking there (not free).
I also like the Cambridge area, too. I haven’t been to Boston in years, though. I used to go about every two months for a few years.
Driving and parking is a total mess. Driving in NYC is much easier than in Boston. I’m a pretty good city driver, but Boston is just awful. The streets are really wind-y and they just seem to end. There is no rhyme or reason. Is the Big Dig still going on?

Haha nope, miraculously the Big Dig was finally completed a few years ago. It’s a beautiful green space now - the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway. Another spot I’d recommend for the OP to visit for a nice walk.

Of course it’s named after a Kennedy. I have nothing against the Kennedys (I kind of like them), but I got real sick of seeing their photos all over. The best was a photo of JFK hanging up in a Burger King in Quincy.
OP where are you staying? Make sure you have nothing Yankees on you.

Re: Help with Boston
DH and I always used to stay in the Harborside Inn. It was reasonable and close to all of the attractions- was walking distance to Quincy Market.

Oh I totally agree - I’m over them and the obsession with them.
