Hemmorhoids and scheduling a c-section??
Have any of you ladies heard of this? I have a 4th degree hemmorhoid that has been thrombosed with a blood clot for the last month and my OB said to go ahead and schedule a c-section but online it said c-ections aren't normally scheduled because of them and my SIL, who is a nurse, is upset because c-sections aren't normally scheduled because of them. They told me that pushing in delivery could cause them to rupture and bleed and to do the c-section to avoid it all together. Any of you had any experience with this? Are they jumping the gun on the c-section? Could i have a problem with a vaginal delivery??

Re: Hemmorhoids and scheduling a c-section??
i'm a physician and have never heard of this either (i'm not an OB, though).
if i were you i would ask the doc what he/she is concerned about re: the hemorrhoid rupturing/bleeding. i mean, i'm sure it would be uncomfortable, but so would recovery from a c-section. it's not like you're going to bleed to death from a hemorrhoid. if it ruptures and you need an intervention after the birth, so what? there's a chance you won't, and the intervention on the hemorrhoid doesn't seem nearly as invasive as major abdominal surgery.
obviously this is just my (non-OB trained!) opinion. but i would have a talk with your OB about the risks/benefits of c-section vs possible hemorrhoid intervention if it does rupture/bleed.
