Here is a question I should probably know...but when do you put your DC forward facing in the car??
My DD is almost 15 months and only 21 pounds. I have her in the middle rear facing?? When can I forward face her and when I do does she stay in the middle or do I put her behind the driver or passenger??
I wanna make sure I am keeping her as safe as possible (I drive an SUV if that matters)...any help/advice will be great!!
THANKS

Technically, you could put her forward facing now if you wanted to. The guidelines are the child must be at least 1 year AND at least 20 pounds. So DD has passed both of those marks.
But they also say the longer you keep them rear facing the better. So if she is still comfortable and you don't mind her being rear facing, keep her that way!

Exactly what I was going to say. We keep DD rear-facing I think until she was almost 16 months old and the only reason we changed it around was because we were changing her out of her infant seat. Her infant seat was good up to 30lbs. DD still isn't 30lbs and she is almost 3!!
About the middle or that side, we kept moving her back and forth and now we have her in the middle, she likes it better so that she can see out the front window!

Keep her rear-facing as long as possible. Ideally, up to the weight limit of the carseat.
Most (Many, Some, ?) vehicles have recommendations as to which is better, middle or side. In general, the middle is the best. After that, the passenger side is the next best.

Although DS can be front facing - he is 19 mos and over the weight limit - I still have him rear facing - it doesn't seem to bother him and I was told by everyone it is the safest and to keep it that way as long as possible or until he exceeds the weight limit.

rare face as long as the car seats allow which for a convertable would be 35 pounds.
Rear facing is 500 times safer .

Re: Here is a question I should probably know...but when do you put your DC forward facing in the car??
The rule is as long as you can leave them rear facing is the safest. Most seats can rear face up to 30-35 lbs - so as long as she isn't looking like a pretzel you should leave her rear facing as long as possible.
