hes still sleeping.. should i wake him ? (long)
ds is sick - hes almost 4 months and been pretty congested and had a dry cough. 2 days ago he started with a wet cough - not productinve. yesterday i took him to the dr and he said it could be croup - if he started making the seal noise then start him on prednnisone. sure enough by that afternoon he started to sound like a seal (poor thing) so i gave him his first dose of prednisone. that night he was inconsolable - crying coughing etc. i called up his ped and he said i could give him tylenol. i took him outside and his seal noise was better - ive been using cool mist humidifier and been running the hot shower in the bathroom. he seems better with his breathing. I elevated the basinette so his head was higher than his feet. he slept pretty much all night from 9pm to 8 am with some waking up bc of coughing but not hungry. he ate at 8am - 5oz. he was up and happy for about 2 hrs and been sleeping since 10am. its not 1:45 what should i do? hes breathing ok - occasional cough but ok. i have him sleeping in his car seat so hes a bit elevated.
should i let him sleep? or wake him to try to feed him? im a first time mom and scared. normally i would never wake him up but hes sick. should i just let him wake on his own? tia!

I would let him sleep. He isn't feeling well. He needs his rest.
On a side note, once the barking sound stops, I would stop the prednisone. YOu dont really want to give it unless it's necessary. I have had to give it to DS #1 two different times and both times he became very irritable and moody. It can change their personality/behavior.

I wouldn't wake him. He's not feeling well and probably just needs to sleep to recuperate, just like an adult. I'm a 1st time mom of an almost 4 month old so I can imagine how you feel. I hope he feels better soon. I agree with a PP about prednisone, it's strong stuff, BUT, check with your Dr. first about stopping it. I'm not sure how it was pescribed but it's a medicine that one typically tapers off of, stopping suddenly is not recommended. With a corticosteroid I would play it safe.
