High amniotic fluid level
i went to the doc tonight and she told me my amniotic fluid level was elevated at 29. she is sending me to a perinatologist in 2 weeks. i am so upset about this. of course i google it and it says so much crazy stuff. could be bc the baby has a swallowing problem(not swallowing the amniotic fluid) neurological defects of the baby, gestational diabetes (which i don't have) or could be nothing all. my doc said not to worry but wants me to see a specialist anyway.
anyone go through this? i can't stop crying

Re: High amniotic fluid level
Hey Jen! I had this too!!! Turned out to be absolutely NOTHING NADA ZIP!!!!! They did induce me on my exact due date though, they didn't want DS hanging around in there. I was "borderline high" (I don't recall what the number categories were though).
Look at the related posts below, a few others had the same thing!!!

Re: High amniotic fluid level
stay calm 90% of the time, its idiopathic - meaning they have no clue what causes it and there are no reasons for it!
i found out that I had high fluid at 34weeks and i remained high until the day I delivered. They never found a reason for it
is perfectly healthy. the only issues that I had was that my high fluid kept DS floating high which COULD be a reason that I never dilated - ended up with a csection at 40w2d.
Im sure all will be ok FM me if you have any questions!!

Re: High amniotic fluid level
don't cry you are so close to the end and you will be completely fine! I went through this with my 1st but I had gestational diabetes so that is what was causing it. At 33 weeks my doctor said with all of the extra amniotic fluid I was measuring a whole month ahead. It started happening at 30 weeks and at 34 weeks I went into preterm labor and went into the hospital for a week where they were able to slow my contractions. I made it until 36 weeks where I had an emergency c-section and my son was born as healthy as can be and did not have to go into the NICU.

Re: High amniotic fluid level
I had it with my last pregnancy, but my doctor wasn't too concerned with any problems with the baby, the only thing he said that might be a problem is if my water broke the cord could prolapse because of the excess fluid. I had to go for weekly NST's, and when they broke my water in the hospital, they used a needle so it trickled out instead of a huge gush.
