High Chairs-- more of a q for BTDT moms I guess

So, I was only registered for the FP Space Saver High Chair-- the one that straps into an existing chair. Baby Bargains says this is great for small spaces, etc. I don't want a huge high chair anyway.

My friend has a similar Eddie Bauer one which she is offering to give me-- she said we should still register for a regular high chair because the "strap on" ones don't recline, you can't adjust the height and the kiddies grow out of it faster.

Now, she has twins-- so feeding time is a little more hectic. So, I wanted to know-- how important are those other features. I thought the strap on would be good enough.

I think this is one of those things that is a personal preference. I really do like the highchair - my son started eating cereal early - 3 months I think - and so it was very convenient to have the recline feature back then. Even now if I am cleaning I will put him in the highchair with a sippy - recline him a bit and he'll drink it.

If you don't have a ton of space - I don't think it's that important to have one - I guess it really depends on your living situation.

People will also tell you that they can fold up - but honestly, I never did that - it was just more of a PIA if you ask me!

I have a strap-on chair at my moms - and I don't love it - I just feel like it really isn't very comfy for him. I also have the FP Booster seat which I keep in my car - that is great for travel and when we go to friends homes.

If I have another baby, I am totally throwing out my highchair and getting the FP Space Saver one. Like a pp said, it does recline. Also, your child will probably stop using it around age 2, so I don't think you need some huge thing. I think the recline feature is a must, but never used the adjustable height feature on mine.

We fed DD in the bouncy seat in the very beginning but quickly switched to the high chair and had no problems. Our didn't recline. I wish I never got a full high chair. Complete waste of space.

I'm so glad you asked this question b/c we just started registering and couldn't decide what to do!! I actually have a follow-up question... For those with the space saver one, did you feel it attached well to any chair (we have narrow but wobbly kitchen chairs and very wide and bulky dining room chairs)?

I have this one too and I LOVE IT! DD#1 had a full sized peg perego that I hated and I was forever moving it around my kitchen and it was hard to clean. I would highly recommend this one, you do not need both!

I have the Eddie Bauer space saver and it has been fine. It's just not cushiony at all so I don't know that I would *really* recommend it for a young baby. My DD is 2 and it works fine with her and it's been great for a while.

If you are limited on space, go with the space saver. I have both a high chair and the space saver (use the space saver for travel- which we do ALOT). I like both equally.

Re: High Chairs-- more of a q for BTDT moms I guess

I have both a full size and a space saver high chair and as a BTDT mom I am going to say just save your money and get the space saver one. We use ours for different purposes. The regular hc is used every day -- but it is a PIA to keep clean and it is bulky. The space saver hc we use when friends are over, when we go out to eat, and when we travel. I will say had we not had the big one - the space saver would be just fine. Frankly the only reason I am still using the big one is that it was expensive and I feel like I need to get my money's worth out of it. I do not plan on keeping the big hc - eventually I will donate it or something. I will keep the small one for hopefully a future child.

Ok one thing to keep in mind - get a vynil seat cover. My biggest gripe about the chico full size hc we have is that the cover is NOT machine washable and it is cloth. It is a nightmare to keep clean.

i love the chicco polly we have for DS. it's grey and red. it folds up pretty thin but honestly we never fold it up. i like that he has his own table to make a mess and it's very convenient for me now that he can feed himself, to just put him in there...
