HIV test in last month of pregnancy?

Does your Dr do this?

I had the HIV test in my first big round of bloodwork when I first got pregnant.
Obviously it came back clear.

Now yesterday at my appt they gave me a lab slip for another one.
They said you have to repeat it in the last month of pregnancy as well.
I never heard of that.
I am assuming they want to make sure you didn't contract anything while pregnant?

Has anyone had the HIV test twice?

I was told that I was supposed to when I the the GD test. But they never gave me a script for it. Maybe they will sometime in my next visit or two. I go back next week at 34 weeks. My doctor said it's ridiculous, but they are kind of told to do so.

that sounds crazy to me! especially since i had to sign like 2 consent forms for it to be done in the first round.

Never heard of having to do it twice? But I'm in NC?

I just had mine done and I had the option of either having it done now or right after delivery? I've never had to do it twice with my other kids either?

I thought it was only done during the first round of bloodwork as well. My doctor didn't say anything to me about it.

I only remember doing it once in the beginning.

I guess it kinda makes sense, but I've never heard of anyone having to do an HIV test again towards the end.

I think I remember them running the test in the blood work taken at the hospital when you go in to give birth. I remember signing a form for them to do it again-to make sure you didn't contract it during the pregnancy.

yea it really annoying. They basically made me do it the first time and then they said I have to do it again a month before birth.

I asked if it was mandatory or optional and she basically didnt give me a straight answer. I was like "oh thats not necessary" She was like "oh maybe not on your end but are you with your husband 24/7?" My mouth literally hit the floor!! Ahhh, they joys of public hospitals in bad neighborhoods LOL.

Yes, two of my girlfriends who see diff doctors both had the HIV test at the end also. Its normal.

I think this is a new law because it used to be once. I think if you refuse the test then they test the baby in the hospital and you don't have a say about that one.
My understanding is that when you get an HIV test, you should check 6 months after again because it can take up to 6 months to show signs or something of that sort. I could totally be fabricating that from my mind, though

It's a new NY State Law to retest around 35-36 wks.

Yup. DD was born in 2008 and I had one done in the beginning and end of pregnancy.

See I was thinking they were looking at ME and thinking- she might be out whoring around this whole pregnancy so we better retest her!
Little do they know I don't even want to sleep with my DH with my elephant vag, belly, and cankles- much less anyone else!

Yes I had it done towards the end too. I think its a state law.

LMaOOOOOOOO believe me same here... and my poor DH can vouche to that LOL. But yea she insisted so I did the stupid test and she comes back 15 minutes later... "oh your clear, the results are good". REALLY LADY?! LOL

Yep I got it done again 2 weeks ago at the doctors office. They said it was hospital policy to get it done at the very end of pregnancy

My doctor mentioned it briefly at my last appointment, I thought it was weird too. Part of me thinks its just another way to get more money out of you/insurance!
