Hives caused by stress
We're having friends stay with us while their bathroom is being remodeled. They have a small shizu (sp) whose old and grouchy! Anyway, since they got here (last Monday) Jake hasn't been eating that great - I think he's just easily distracted by and wants to try to play with the old grouchy dog. He has also vomitted 2-3 times this week too. Attitude wise he's the same - playful, lots of energy, friendly - your typical lab. Not at all lethargic or mopey. However, last night was rough - we went to bed (Jake sleeps in our bedroom) and he was all over me. Jumping on the bed, cuddling with me, being extra mushy. He was also scratching and "shaking out" a lot. I checked him for ticks/fleas - didn't see anything. However, he does have these little bumps all down the sides of his back - it's noticable because he normally has a very smooth coat - now it looks a little ragged. I called the vet this morning and he has an appt for first thing Monday morning. Doing my own research, I think he may have hives. But he's never had them before. Could he possibly develop hives from feeling stressed from another dog and other people being constantly in the house? It also looks like his may have a very faint rash on his chest area.
What do you guys make of this? Anyone deal with anything similar to this and if so, what was it and how is it treated?
I guess I should also add that he's a 1 year, 5 month, 100 lbs yellow lab. Also, other than the house guests and dog, nothing else has changed his enviornment - no new food, no new surroundings, no new furniture, etc
PS - Sorry this is so long - if you read this far, I appreciate it!
