My question is why are people so adamant about the fact that they know anything when it comes to covid and the vaccine? The best I can say is that it’s totally evolving and we STILL know very little. I mean the efficacy of the Pfizer vaccine is anywhere from 42 to 96% effective. That’s a pretty large range no?!?!?! That alone tells me that no one knows anything. But yeah, I guess a stay at home mom that reads a couple articles and talks to her friends at the gym about covid must know more. People just need to understand that everything you think about this whole situation is your opinion. And people will have different opinions. It’s not them spreading misinformation. It’s amazing to me the arrogance of some people that they think they are so much smarter than other people without taking the time to read what they have to say. For me, I love having conversations with people that think differently than I do because it makes me question why I think the way I do. And if I disagree I don’t say anything I just politely walk away. I certainly don’t scream at them or call them stupid. People have just lost all common decency.
I am wondering where you got the 42% from. It looks like it might be from the recent Minnesota study that measured its efficacy against the Delta variant. The experts admit it's a relatively small study and more need to be done.
Either way, your range requires context. Most of the studies are on the higher end of those numbers and for a greater number of variants.
I don't think it's accurate to say we know very little. There is plenty more to learn, but the technology behind the major vaccines is over a decade old. We're also going on a year now that people have been administered this vaccine (taking into account trials) and there is data on millions of people. It's disingenuous to throw our hands in the air and say "oh well, we don't know shit, can't trust anything, etc." There are ways to parse data to figure out what the story is, or a good idea of what it seems to be.
While you're lamenting the loss of common decency you might consider your own role, as you repeatedly condescend to Hofstra about her being a stay at home mom or an out of work K teacher or whatever similar derogatory thing you have said.
As for my own opinion - not directed at you, lululu - I'm obviously very pro vax and I love when I hear about organizational rules that incentivize people to get it. On the other hand, there are reasonable arguments to be made that it should be a choice.
The only thing that really bothers me is when unvaccinated adults walk around indoor public places without masks. We are in a pandemic and there is zero excuse. That type of behavior is reprehensible and tells me something about a person's character. I'm sure someone will jump down my throat now but I could not possibly care less if I tried really hard to figure out a way to do so. If you don't do that, then I'm not talking to you.
Couldn’t care less is the saying. Why would it bother you if you are vaccinated since you believe the percentage is quite high? If you are worried, I would suggest wearing a mask and give everyone that choice. Do you wear masks around friends and family you see inside that are not vaccinated or does this only go for stores for you?
Couldn't is the contraction for "could not" which is what Jen said. If you're going to correct someone's grammar at least have an understanding of it yourself before you open your mouth.
Sad that is all you got out of that post.
My goodness your cognitive function must be really low. Do you understand that it is the unvaccinated that are allowing this virus to run rampant and spread? If the majority of people were vaccinated, the virus would no longer mutate, would no longer spread and we would be out of this nightmare. We are stuck here, with delta raging and people arguing about masks, because of YOU. It is the fault of the people who choose not to vaccinate themselves that we are still in this mess. People like me who are vaccinated still have to wear masks bc of people like YOU. I wear a mask indoors bc I am immunocompromised and I cannot trust that the unvaccinated will do the right thing and at the very least mask up. It’s such a small thing to do to protect the people around you. I wear a mask while fully vaccinated bc I could still possibly carry the virus because of people like YOU who are ALLOWING IT TO KEEP SPREADING. It wouldn’t spread anymore if most people were vaccinated and THEN we could unmask. Vaccinated people can’t walk around freely and without the fear of getting Covid because we are forced to coexist with people who won’t do their part to stop this thing from literally ruining life as we know it.
Whoababy...chill.out.
If vaccinated people can still get sick because the vaccine is not 100%, then who is to say the vaccinated are not giving to the vaccinated? You quickly assume only unvaccinated people are getting sick and passing it along.
Do you only associate with vaccinated people? You have no family or friends whom you spend time with that are unvaccinated?
The vaccine is not the end all be all and many are not even getting the 2nd shot nor are interested in this 3rd booster.
So what happens then when you get less and less people who will get the next vaccines? Are you going to have a temper tantrum like you are doing here because you are not getting your way?
I have never said if I am vaccinated or not and all quickly assume and judge. I don't find it to be anyone's business and don't have to flaunt it in people's faces.
Honestly, you are too misguided to even argue with. Just know, this is all on YOU and the people like you. it is your fault that this thing is spreading like it is. Thanks so much.
You didn't answer my question. Do YOU spend time with unvaccinated people? Do you attack them or ones you see out in public with no masks that you ASSUME are unvaccinated?
I do not have a single solitary person in my life who is unvaccinated, except of course for the young children.
Wow, interesting. I don't think anyone can actually say that. I guess if you have a small family and set of friends and don't do much outside of being in public with a mask on.
You don’t think anyone can actually say that? I JUST SAID IT. Not all of us are as mentally limited as the rest of you
Really? I am sorry you sound like you are starting your day off on the wrong foot.
I just find it very hard to believe that anyone would not know ONE person that is unvaccinated that they spend any time with. I guess if you still hiding away then I can see, but for most, that is not true.
I find it odd that you incessantly whine how "everyone is mean to you" yet your replies to most people on here demonstrate over and over again what a nasty and condescending b!tch you are.
whobaby - Almost everyone I know is also vaccinated at this point. Certainly nobody is "hiding away" in their house as VB/windy/ HAZEL has convinced herself of. Don't even waste your breath on her, you'll get nowhere with her constant, repetitive, circular arguments of nonsense.
Really? Can't you get your point across without calling people names? We are not in middle school anymore.
So every.single.person you come across and spend more time than just passing in the store is vaccinated? It sounds like people who claim this, have a very, very small circle.

In all seriousness, have you seen their cards? I know plenty of people who lie to friends/neighbors/coworkers etc just so they don’t have to listen to them.
I’ve seen it with play dates. A couple weeks ago I had a friend tell me she just told them they were vaccinated bc the mom is only allowing outdoor play dates with kids whose parents are vaccinated. Mind you, this was a drop off outdoor play date. I refused to lie and just told my kid they cant go lol
Fake cards are rampant right now too

I know people with fake cards. Those things are so easy to make.
A father and son in Hawaii were in the news over the weekend, they got arrested for using fake vaccine cards. They are facing jail time and fines. Some people are so dumb. Why risk getting in trouble?

The fake vaccine cards may work while getting into a venue that requires it, but not college. Im sure they will run the number and see if it is in the data base.

Fake cards are rampant right now too
Just another example of more vile human beings who don’t give a rats ass about anyone but themselves. Disgusting
And btw, it’s very easy to surround yourself with only vaccinated people if you know and trust the people in your life. Good people don’t lie to their friends

Same. All of my family and friends are vaccinated. Everyone in the department I work in is also vaccinated.
I actually have spoken up in person to people who are not vaccinated. My 2 family members were vaccine hesitant and have since gotten the vaccine.

Hmmm...I was crazy when I mentioned a Third Dose
I hang out with people who are both vaccinated and unvaccinated. Some of the people I question their decisions (as they are extremely concerned and nervous about Covid so I thought they would be) but I typically don't ask those their vaccination status.
That being said - the one person I know that just recovered from Covid, and all of the others that I have heard that have had it recently are vaccinated. I'm hearing next to nothing about unvaccinated folks having covid.

I don't get why people lie. My vaccinated friends and family know we're unvaccinated. If they are uncomfortable they won't hang around us. I see no need to lie. And by the way it shouldn't matter someones vaccination status. If you are vaccinated then why are you worried about those who aren't? I really don't get it.
One of my friends who has been fully vaccinated for a while just came down with COVID and we were all supposed to hang out this weekend. Thank God she found out before but obviously her vaccination status didn't prevent her from getting COVID...as a matter of fact she's pretty sure she got it from another vaccinated member of her family which is why she tested.

It matter to those who are vaccinated because even though a vaccinated person can spread the virus, they are likely to carry a much lower viral load - meaning they are likely to spread a much smaller amount of viral particles. Less particles means less likelihood of getting sick. More particles (which an unvaccinated person is likely to spread) means a greater likelihood that whoever "catches" the particles will get sick.

Fake cards are rampant right now too
Just another example of more vile human beings who don’t give a rats ass about anyone but themselves. Disgusting
And btw, it’s very easy to surround yourself with only vaccinated people if you know and trust the people in your life. Good people don’t lie to their friends
Why would people find the need to lie to their friends? I am so glad I have the friends I do as everyone who is vaccinated and unvaccinated are understanding of both sides and have never rejected anyone and pushed them away.
Most of the time people are not going around asking if you are vaccinated though so I find that quite odd that someone would just come out and ask. I have been many places with close friends and people I see on a semi-regular basis and we have better things to talk about and do then to ask if anyone is vaccinated.

We just got a wedding invitiation that requested all guests be vaccinated. We vaccinated but aren't going for other reasons but, I found that interesting.

Not sure if this applies to this very contagious variant hence why so many vaccinated people are getting COVID and still spreading it...
Unless you are absolutely guaranteed not to spread the virus then you should be following the same protocols of the unvaccinated when it comes to community rules. Common sense IMO.

Same. I'm so grateful for the friends and family that I have that are understanding and respectful of everyones decision. As long as no one is sick with COVID or anything else then we have no issues hanging out with each other.

Then wear a mask and socially distant.
I honestly only know 1 person, personally, who won't go to functions and I am not sure if it is just because unvaccinated people will be there or just the fear of the variant. They are vaccinated.

Fake cards are rampant right now too
Just another example of more vile human beings who don’t give a rats ass about anyone but themselves.
Wow first time I have heard that. Shame that they would exclude people but I guess they feel anyone they invite is not that important to them. Wonder how well that is going to go over later on in life seeing these people and having a relationship.

Not sure if this applies to this very contagious variant hence why so many vaccinated people are getting COVID and still spreading it...
Unless you are absolutely guaranteed not to spread the virus then you should be following the same protocols of the unvaccinated when it comes to community rules. Common sense IMO.
There truly is not enough data out there to know if a vaccinated person got it from an unvaccinated person. UNLESS that person saw absolutely no one else that was not vaccinated and those people also. I can't see anyone being able to do that and know where they got it from.
It is a back and forth as many vaccinated people won't accept that another vaccinated person could give it to them as they were told the efficiency is so high. Vaccinated people ARE hospitalized and dying so not ALL will get less symptoms, unfortunately. We can only hope the vaccine will work for the most part.

It's efficacy, not efficiency.
That aside, UNVACCINATED individuals make up nearly ALL of the current COVID related deaths. Therefore, the vaccine IS doing its job (as its been stated MANY times before to you) and keeping people either asymptomatic or left with a mild case of the virus where they quickly recover.

Same. I'm so grateful for the friends and family that I have that are understanding and respectful of everyones decision. As long as no one is sick with COVID or anything else then we have no issues hanging out with each other.
Exactly. Any friends that have gotten covid got it in the beginning when no one was around one another. These people have absolutely no problem doing things with vaccinated and unvaccinated, inside and outside. To be shunned, especially by friends and family is just a shame. They will regret it as life is just too short.

Again, almost all current COVID related deaths are attributable to those who are unvaccinated. Feel free to Google, it's information that is literally everywhere online. I know you prefer to peddle untruths but as usual, what you're saying is incorrect.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/31/health/fully-vaccinated-people-breakthrough-hospitalization-death/index.html
(CNN)More than 99.99% of people fully vaccinated against Covid-19 have not had a breakthrough case resulting in hospitalization or death, according to the latest data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The data highlights what leading health experts across the country have highlighted for months: Covid-19 vaccines are very effective at preventing serious illness and death from Covid-19 and are the country's best shot at slowing the pandemic down and avoiding further suffering. The CDC reported 6,587 Covid-19 breakthrough cases as of July 26, including 6,239 hospitalizations and 1,263 deaths. At that time, more than 163 million people in the United States were fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Divide those severe breakthrough cases by the total fully vaccinated population for the result: less than 0.004% of fully vaccinated people had a breakthrough case that led to hospitalization and less than 0.001% of fully vaccinated people died from a breakthrough Covid-19 case. Most of the breakthrough cases -- about 74% -- occurred among adults 65 or older. ...

To add to GoldenRod's link above, this article is from just a few weeks ago but the story today is the same.........almost all of the COVID deaths are unvaccinated individuals.
UNVACCINATED MAKE UP ALMOST ALL COVID DEATHS
