Holiday Gift Shop

I love the idea of my kids going to the school store and picking stuff out for the family, but it gets ridiculous how much it winds up being. With 2 boys in school and then a list of who to get for with the amount... Ugh!

I am even splitting up the grandparents and it's still going to be a fortune. LOL! We have them get our gifts, aunts and uncles, grandparents, they get eachother a gift and now they want to get something for the dog. It's going to be about $70 of crap. Chat Icon
I still have my stuff from the past and afraid to put on the necklace my son got me or the slippers. LOL

We don't do aunts and uncles or it would get crazy. But I LOVE the thought they put into all that little crap. It may be my favorite part of Christmas Chat Icon

My kids always do the "I'm going to show you what I bought you but you have to forget..." Chat Icon

Do you mind sharing how much you give DC for that? Dd has it tomorrow for the first time and I'm trying to work out her budget. Of course she wants to buy for everyone she's ever met lol.

Do you have a sheet that asks you how much? We have an envelope you check off (ex - $2 - $3/$3 - $4, $4 - $6, and up).

Yes. Just not sure how much to put per gift. It said up to $10 per item and most are under 4. I have to go over it with dd and I'm also dreading her begging to buy for a bunch of extra people.

Re: Holiday Gift Shop

I'm not sure what to send in either. It says items range from .50 to $10. He is going to buy for mom, dad, and 4 grandparents, no aunts/uncles.

We just got the notice home today and the gifts range from .50-$10. My twins are in K and are getting $10 total each to spend. I'm thinking I'm just going to let them buy for their little brother and each other so $5.00 on each sibling they can spend.

I send DC in with $35 and he can do with it what he wants. We budget $5 per person and he almost always comes home with change. its never been an issue, so dont worry. Your DC will find something for everyone ;)

That's exactly what I was thinking. 6 people send in $30 and write he can spend anywhere from .50-5.00 on each person.

Most of the stuff is junky, I have worked ours many years. There are a few good things, but I cringe when the kids buy the jewelry. This year I'm refusing to let her buy for EVERYONE, and only sending $20 in.

Most of the items are pretty cheap at our school. My family gets a kick the gifts he picks out so I let him buy for everyone. He bought 7 gifts for $30

Holiday Gift Shop

We let DD buy for 8 people and she is allowed to get something for herself. We give $40 and usually have change. I have run our Holiday store for many years and I think it's ridiculous to have gifts in the $10 range. Most of our gifts are $3 some over and some under with nothing over $5. If you think the prices are too high, let your PTA know. They pick out all the gifts.

Same here, except I also let him pick out something for himself.

Our items are all $1. I send him in with $8.

So I sent my son in with $8 (since everything is $1).

He missed the first day since he was out sick.

He came home with:

3 pairs of women's gloves (for me, my mom and my dad)
1 Elmo Book (for DS 2)
1 screwdriver (for DH)
1 basket (for MIL and FIL)
nothing for himself.

I'm wondering where my other $2 went...

Re: Holiday Gift Shop

I absolutely HATE this shopping thing they do. It is such crap!!!! Last year I wasn't going to send him in with anything and then my inlaws made me feel bad about it.

But it really is crap that gets thrown out. He got me a ring and the ruby fell out the next day. It literally is like a ring from a $.25 machine.
