I cut it up into small pieces that DD can mash with her gums and give it to her that way.

You never pureed it like they sell in the jars at the store?
How old was DD when you first gave it to her?
Did you give it to her for lunch? Or dinner? With a veggetable?
Sorry for the overload of questions....and thank you for your response!

When I introduced it, I gave it to her jarred just to "test" it. Then I realized, why not just give her the real thing KWIM?
We started meats at 9 months after her 9 month check up.
I give it to her with dinner.
Days that I'm home with her, if I have leftovers I'll give her at lunch as well. I don't have any rule about when I give it to her really.
I do usually pair it with a veggie, because she's not eating enough of it right now to classify it as a full meal.

Re: Home-made babyfood (meats) - BTDT
since you are introducing meats for the first time, i would puree it!dd is 11 months and i stilll puree her meals. i will give her pieces of chicken or finger foods in between...
you can cook a whole oven roaster chicken with assorted veggies like carrots and celery and puree it all together in batches. or if it is easier, buy thigh or breast meat on the bone and roast in the oven.
puree both white and dark( dark is higher in iron than white) without the skin. i find that when you cook chicken on the bone, it comes out more moist and juicy.
i did chicken for a while and then i bought a package of beef stew meat and started making beef stews and pureed that as well.
meat tends to be a little "chalky" when you try to puree it, so i make sure to put lots of veggies to add moisture and add a little water at a time to get the right consistency.

I just chop it up in my processor. I usually don't give him meat byitself, but put it with other foods, like a casserole or mix with pasta.

I was grossed out by the idea of jarred and pureed meats. I didn't introduce meat until DS could eat table food.

Re: Home-made babyfood (meats) - BTDT
We introduced meat (chicken) to Chloe at 6 months. I made a big batch of chicken soup with carrots, parsnips, onion, dill, parsley and pureed it up. She loves it! I have also baked chicken on the bone with carrots and pureed it up after with water.
For another form of protein, I made a moroccan lentil soup with chickpeas, lentils, veggies and some spices (no salt) and Chloe loves it.
Beef stew is another great idea from hunnybunny... I might try this too

Re: Home-made babyfood (meats) - BTDT
I didn't want to puree meats, so I made a homemade chicken veggie soup with chicken, carrots, potatoes, and squash. I slow cooked it until everything was nice and mushy, and then I mashed everything up with a fork, and added a little pastina.
DS loves it. We started when he was 9 m/o.
For Thanksgiving, I chopped up turkey and mixed it in his mashed potatoes...he loved that too. I don't give the chicken/turkey by itself because it can be a little dry, and the one time I tried to give DS shredded chicken alone, he kept gagging.
