Home Owners...
When you moved in, did you go to the neighbors houses to say hello, or did you wait for people to come to you to welcome you to the neighborhood?

Re: Home Owners...
Most neighbors came up to us while we were cleaning up the yard.
We bought a foreclosure and it's kind of akward though- I know that sounds strange. The guy who lost our house was BFF with all the neighbors. He even still lived on our street!!!! I could tell right away who the nosy ones were, and who the normal ones are. I tend to keep my distance, DH does most of the neighbor-talking.

Re: Home Owners...
People were very welcoming. We got flowers delivered from one neighbor, cookies from another, and a bottle of wine from someone else.

Re: Home Owners...
We moved in in January '07 so we didn't see much of our neighbors until the weather got better. We did go over to one house and introduced ourselves but that was it at first. Then when it was Spring we'd go over and say hello when we saw more people outside. No one came to greet us at our door, it was up to us to be the sociable new neighbor.

Re: Home Owners...
Our 2 neighbors next to us came over while we were moving in to say hi. Another neighbor across the street came over months later when he saw that DH needed help with something in the yard and helped him out. Other than that, the other neighbors never came over and we never went over there.

We haven't even moved in yet and we already know 3 of the neighbors (all very nice!)... they came right on over when we were there for the inspection.

Re: Home Owners...
Our one neighbor left us a bottle of Champagne when we closed on the house. They were friendly with the previous owner. We were doing major renovation so being outside we got to talking. The 1st night we were doing demo the husband came over with a hammer and helped all night!
We have become good friends with them.
They introduced us to some other neighbors and some would introduce themselves when we were all outside.
No one came knocking on the door with a casserole but they were all very friendly every time we crossed.

Re: Home Owners...
We haven't moved in yet, we've just been working on the house, and 4 out of the 7 other neighbors on the block have already come to say hello. Infact, we've already had two of them in to see the work on the house. Everyone's been awesome so far.

They came up to us to introduce themselves. One even gave us a basket of fall themed mugs since we moved in the fall.

Re: Home Owners...
We moved into our house right before the holidays and our neighbors brought us cookies. Then we finally met the rest of the street as it was getting nicer outside.

We moved in January....we got a couple of waves from the people next door....but only the older couple across the street came over to say hello!
Now with the nicer weather, we are hoping to meet more of them.

Most of our neighbors came to us as we were outside moving things in or cleaning up. In the 3 years there, we still have some neighbors to meet...

Re: Home Owners...
We live in a cul de sac in a town house community. We moved the day before Christmas so it took some time to meet our neighbors. We met our neighbor that we share a path with a few weeks after moving in. She brought over some take out menus! We met most of the other neighbors over the summer at the community pool. There are only 150 homes in our community so we have met most of them by now.

Re: Home Owners...
We moved into the house in November, and it was kinda cold, so we'd really just wave to the neighbors. When spring finally came, we were able to "formally" introduce ourselves.

Re: Home Owners...
Most people came up to us while we were working in the yard. There are still people I have not met though, I just met one neighbor a little down the street yesterday. If I see people outside that I don't know, I will walk up to them and introduce myself. Not so comfortable ringing doorbells though, don't want to intrude.
People were pretty friendly though. There's only one neighbor who is a toad.

We moved in last year around this time. We met most of our neighbors when we were all our doing yard work. I did have one neighbor stop on by inviting me to town mtg.

Re: Home Owners...
When we bought our house, in July '07, we worked on our house for 4 months before we moved in. We spent a lot of time outside cleaning up the mess of a front yard. The day after we closed, one by one our 4 neighbors right near us, came over to introduce themselves. It was great to be welcomed to the neighborhood in that way. The previous owners were a real nightmare, so they were happy to see a nice young couple move in. They actually asked us if "they" were really gone. About a month later they had a BBQ for us and invited more neighbors to meet us. It was so nice. We had a great time.

Ha, same situation with us. We bought a foreclosed house and the family moved one block away into an inlaws house. they said the block was super friendly and since we've moved in (a month ago) neighbors have come over and brought us banana bread, stopped as we've been outside and introduced themselves etc. it really is a very friendly block. However, i feel really weird knowing they're all friends with the former owners - we had to fix a lot of bad mistakes that were made in the house and we have to remember never to bring it up to the neighbors since we don't want anything getting back to the other owners.
I think as the weather gets warmer, more people are out and they'll come over to you.

I'm glad you can sympathize- it's really awkward! The former owner of our house is really shady, so it's especially strange b/c all our neighbors talk about him to us like they go back and tell him e verything. It's creepy!
