Horrible diaper rash- should she go to the ped?

Riley was sooo cranky yesterday, I couldn't make her happy and I honestly had no idea what it was...until I changed her. WOW. She has this horrible redness, almost like a burn on her butt cheeks and a bit of redness in the typical area. I put on a whole lot of Butt Paste last night before bed...and I don't see any improvement this morning. I'm going to run out and get Triple Paste.

Any idea what caused this? Could it have been something I ate that passed through BM? I do have mastitis...not sure if that could affect it (I'm not on antibiotics).

TIA!

Could she be teething? Some children get bad diaper rash when teething. My DD did. I tried several different ointments but neither worked that well. I've always had the most luck with Desitin and Aquaphor.

More importantly, let her butt get lots of air after each change before you put the paste on.

ETA: to answer your original question, I wouldn't bring her to the ped. Give her lots of air time first.

Funny cuz she didn't get a rash with her first two teeth, and they're in, big time. I thought for a minute yesterday, before I discovered the rash that her crankyness was due to teething- I let her suck on my finger and she bit me HARD!Chat Icon Chat Icon

hmmm...if she's teething- would it be her top teeth now?

Thanks!Chat Icon I'll go get the Triple Paste!

My kids never got it with their first teeth. But they are getting their 1 yr molars and both have had it. I bought mylanta-put that on with a cotton ball-sorta dry it by flapping the diaper around. Then I put on Deistin clear followed by triple paste

my daughter when she was a newborn had a horrible rash it was red and raw and like little circles. i tried the mylanta and triple paste combo and it didn't work. i had to take her to her ped and she had a yeast infection. i would maybe have it looked at. if it is yeast, there is a cream they will prescribe

Re: Horrible diaper rash- should she go to the ped?

DD used to get them with teething or she can have a diaper rash with yeast were it burns. The doctor can give a rx for that dd had to have on and the say to that cream on and destin on top of it and powder.

U can use a anti fungal cream frist on it then a destin or triple paste and u can use gold bond baby power on top of the two creams that really works for me.

If that don't work then i would say defty take her to the peds or if it is cranked or bleeding defty take her.

Hope that helped

If diaper creams are not working...it is a yeast infection and she will need a prescription diaper cream to clear it up...call your ped.

if triple paste doesn't clear it up, you may want to try mustela STELACTIV®. DD#2 had a persistent diaper rash that lingered for weeks. i went to the ped, got a prescription (even though he didn't believe it was fungal) but even that didn't work. a friend told me about mustela, it cleared it up within 24 hours.
