A lot of washes are too harsh for the winter. Try something like Aveeno (I like the ultra calming foaming cleanser).

Are you using a night cream? Are you using a humidifier?

I actually started using a lighter night cream and my skin has been flaky too. I just switched back to the ultra moisturizing ROC one I was using last year!

I sleep with a humidifier RIGHT next to me.

Might just be too harsh for your face then!

Re: Horribly dry skin on my face- Help!!

I went out last week and got a day cream and night cream from clinique for very dry skin. I had a facial last week and the lady commented on how dry it was. The fine lines on my forehead were so awful..this weather and aging (i hate to admit) are both contributing to it (I JUST started noticing fine lines at 33).

The clinique moisturizers are helping tremendously!!! I can already see a huge difference. And it hasn't made me breakout (knock on wood).

Good luck! Also, the facial really helped...my skin looked awesome the day after it!!

Thanks for the info. Yes, I am 34 and JUST started to notice the fine lines, so depressing! I'll look into Clinique, do you know which ones they are if there are choices? I'm always afraid to go for a facial (never have) because I heard you often break out afterwards- is that even true?

I LOATH the Philosophy line. My skin was also literaly flaking off after just one use of that stuff!! Oh, just the memory of that experience makes me itch!!! Chat Icon

This thing, however, is amazing: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

Give it a try!!!Chat Icon

Re: Horribly dry skin on my face- Help!!

I have combo skin and as I get older my skin has also been changing..

I use Neutrogena's grapefruit Acne Oil Free wash on my face to prevent breakouts but I also use this and it's been AMAZING on my skin! My skin is so soft and smooth and (knock on wood) I have not had any breakouts! I use it on my body too.. After you rinse off, your skin barely needs cream and mind, you it's NOT oily at all!

I use a plethora of face/eye creams and for me, it helps when I change it up.. so it stinks that I don't know exactly which does/doesn't work but I do know that this crazy system I have in place IS working lol

here is the soap.

Japanese clay and charcoal facial soap

I know it sounds crazy and like it wouldn't work, but there was a point that my skin got very dry and I used a little bit of vaseline at night as a night cream. My skin never felt better and it didn't cause breakout. My skin was so smooth and soft in the mornings.

Also, If I was my face at night I do not wash it morning again.

Re: Horribly dry skin on my face- Help!!

I have skin issues and nothing worked for me. It was either too harsh or not strong enough.

I finally started using Dermalogica. I use the Daily Microfoliant and then the skin soothing cream.

Has made a world of difference in my face.

Same here, I will sometimes use petroleum jelly on my face in the winter. I only use Cetaphil to wash, but I use makeup remover (mainly on my eyes at night). I also use Eucerin (the thick cream in a jar) on my face as well as body in the winter.

I also use a rough cloth on my face occasionally (gently, not like I scrub my body) when I notice that even creams don't help with the flakiness. All of this keeps my skin so smooth and soft, I've been told I have a nice complexion and honestly think it's because of the moiturizers I use.

Re: Horribly dry skin on my face- Help!!

My skin gets horribly dry in the winter.
I use a washcloth (gently) with warm water and Basis vitamin bar.
While skin is still damp, good old Nivea moisturizer or if I feel particularly dry, a light coating of Neutragena body oil.

I'm 45 and other than a touch of rosacea, my skin looks great. Thanks to good genes, no wrinkles.
