It depends also on which hospital. Some gives you everything you need while others may not give you enough. For example I work for Winthrop and policy is 1 pair of the mesh panties per day.

1 pair of mesh panties a day at Winthrop?!?! Damn, LIJ was like the land of milk and honey compared to that. Anytime I said I needed another pair (which was technically a lie since I had more than enough in the bathroom but wanted to stock up for home), the nurses literally gave me like 10 at a time! I wore them at home for at least 2 weeks after delivering --they were a god send!

Stonybrook didn't even have mesh panties. I brought my own depends silhouettes and they were amazing. Even the nurses were telling me how genius they were lol. Definitely bringing those again.

Behold, the mesh panty! Stretchy, breathable, and the best part, disposable. Get blood on 'em -- chuck 'em and put on a new pair! I think they sell them on Amazon. Loved them.

Re: Hospital Bag

Guys don't being a ton of crap to the hospital, it's such a waste! I delievered a week ago and literally used one pair of sweats and a top. I wore the same clothes home that I wore to the hospital (the horror!!!)
Trust me, you will barely be able to walk to the bathroom, let alone be able to bend over and shave your legs.

Bring two changes of clothes and a bag of your toiletries. Hospital provides everything else. I delievered at North Shore and they gave me mesh undies, pads, creams, etc. and I used the scratchy towels. They're not bad for one time.

They're similar to the mesh undies but less boxer like and I knew that they'd fit!

Exactly. You can always tell the FTM's to be by the hospital list. Please don't take offense OP!

Oh I'm not planning on taking all of this, I'm just compiling a list!!

Honestly, you don't need very much at all and the lists of what some people packed is absolutely crazy. I used barely anything I packed when I was in the hospital. Here's what I used: chapstick, hair ties, basic toiletries, cell phone charger, comfy clothes, baby's going home outfit, slippers. I did, based on recommendations from here, bring 2 extra empty duffle bags which turned out to be absolutely necessary to bring home all the free stuff the nurses gave us (maxi pads, mesh undies, tucks wipes, numbing spray, squirt bottles, diapers, etc.)

I agree. I wouldn't over pack. Some list are out of control. I packed a few sets of PJ's, maternity palazzo capris, tee shirts, sports bra, slippers.socks and large underwear. Of course basic toiletries, cell phone, charger, and take home outfit for baby. Hospital provides a lot too.

Hospital Bag

One thing I used over and over was my charger. Oh my God, I sucked the battery right out of my damn phone.

Bring your medicine that you take on a regular basis. HUGE fight with one nurse over if I was allowed and my doctors were like um, she has to take it.

hair gel
hair things in general
socks

Just a thought for second time mom's. A change of clothes and tooth brushes for other dc, and small toys for them.

I'm currently in the hospital and should have brought something for ds in my hospital bag.

Re: Hospital Bag

One thing I brought that I don't see on the lists is the baby book. If you're going to do one, of course. I had some downtime when I sent baby to the nursery at night so I took a few minutes to start filling it out. For me it was fun and relaxing. I'm sure others think I'm nuts. Chat Icon
