How can I politely not accept a family member's Facebook friend request?
So, DH's aunt has sent me a Facebook request.
I absolutely do not want to accept it for several reasons.
1) She has said and done things in the past that are extremely rude and irritating, so because of that she already gets under my skin. For example, she didn't come to our house one year for Christmas Eve because she was too sick. We saw her the next day at someone else's house and she walked in with a surgical mask on and proceeded to tell us she would wash her hands so that she could hold DS (he was 3 months old at the time) When we politely told her no she got all offended and didn't talk to us for a while. She also told my DH after I had my DD that she knew I was having a girl because my "a$s got big".
2) She has my email address and the only emails I get from her (constantly) are forwarded chain emails, political emails that I don't agree with... let's just say I don't even open them up on my computer for fear that she's going to send me a virus.
3) I looked at her Facebook page and all she does is play online poker and gambling games so I just know all I am going to get from her are requests to play the games with her.
4) I can see that she changed her profile picture to one of her and my DD and that just bugs me.
5) She's just overall a woman with no class and she has no filter so I just don't want to take my chances on what she will post on my wall. She posted a comment on her son's girlfriend's page "Hi sexy..." which I just thought was weird.
I have ignored her friend request so far. I don't do anything with it... don't confirm and don't ignore. She just sent me a Facebook message yesterday that simply said "ADD ME". In all capital letters, nothing else.
So needless to say I don't want to add her. Is there any graceful way out of this?

I never accepted my dad. I love him like crazy but I'm not really that concerned.
He has never brought it up.
How about seeing if you don't accept it what happens?

Accept her and block her from seeing your wall.
That is an idea. I guess I can block her updates from my wall too, right?

I am going to try and ignore her request and see what happens.... but I guarantee she won't let it drop. It's just the type of person she is.

Yes - you can hide her from your wall (I do that for a lot of people who just play games constantly).

Re: How can I politely not accept a family member's Facebook friend request?
I added a few people from DHs family and blocked them only to find out they were still able to see my pics and what I was posting. Now I feel wierd deleting them. NAy new requests that I have from his family I just don't answer - don't accept and don't click ignore. I feel like they are only adding me to snoop around my pictures and report back what I am doing One person I never even met! And I have been with my DH for 14 years

I would accept her request & block her from seeing my wall & photo albums, friend lists, etc, remove her from my newsfeed.

Sorry to hijack, but how do you block an individual person from seeing your wall, etc...? I thought if you did this, it blocked everyone from seeing it?

If you go into privacy settings, there is a link on the bottom that says customize settings, click on that, and then on each drop-down bar, you can customize and even block certain people.

Maybe I have technological challenges, but I have had trouble doing this.
OP, I would just keep ignoring her.

This is what I do. They are my friend, but cannot see anything.

This is what I would do too, and you can block updates from her as well if you don't want to see them.

Re: How can I politely not accept a family member's Facebook friend request?
accept her but make it limited profile
block her from your pictures, wall, status updates feed
also as soon as she posts and update - X out her update to remive all updates from your filter.
she should be pretty much under control after that

I am friends with DH's sister on FB (refuse to call her SIL which gives you a hint of how I feel about her)...I have her blocked from being able to see almost all my information.

i wouldn't be shy about it. i would just deny her and block her from friending you again. if you really don't want to be friends with her just do that. maybe she'll get the hint and back off. sorry if it sounds harsh but that's just me. good luck hon!!

Re: How can I politely not accept a family member's Facebook friend request?
Adding someone and blocking them from EVERYTHING seems like playing games... why even add them, then? I'd rather not be added then know that I am blocked from everything.
Since she sent you a rude message, I'd send this one back: NO

Re: How can I politely not accept a family member's Facebook friend request?
I just reread that she send you a message. I'd just block her & be done with it. If she asks why, tell her you have no interest in adding her as a FB friend but she can feel free to continue to email you if she needs something.

Why is it playing games to allow certain people to see or not see posts & pictures of yours? I see that as managing friendships. Just adding them doesn't mean you are required to be an open book.

If you block someone they can't see anything of yours ever. Regardless of who posts in reply to you or whatever.

Re: How can I politely not accept a family member's Facebook friend request?
I didn't mean blocking some things - I have some things hidden from people. If just seemed like some people were saying block everything - all pics, all status updates, etc, not just certain albums or statuses. If you block it all... why even friend them?
I would just block the aunt, if she's gonna start sending you annoying messages.
