How did you chart everything after DC came home from the hospital???
So I am due in October, and although I'm sure this doesn't need to be done yet, I was thinking about how to keep track of everything when baby comes home.
How did you do it??? Did you make a chart, just keep a list???
I want to keep track of everything (eating, especially since I'll be trying to BF, pooping, peeing, spit up, etc.)
Just thought I would see if any of you BTDT mom's have some suggestions on what worked best for you.

Re: How did you chart everything after DC came home from the hospital???
I just had a notebook that I would write what time I fed DS, which boob I started with, poopy diapers.
It's funny to look through because as you get further along, we started documenting less and less. And there are random recipes written on some pages... obviously I was feeding DS and watching TV and needed something to write on!
I think I stopped writing things down around 4 months.

Re: How did you chart everything after DC came home from the hospital???
I just had a little spiral notebook and used one page per day.
At the top of the page, I kept tally marks for the # of wet and the # of poopy diapers. Then, below that, I wrote on one side of the page the times he ate and how much (he was FF) and on the other side I wrote the times he slept.
It worked pretty well for us and I just kept it out on the kitchen table or the countertop all the time.
ETA: I would say it was especially helpful to keep this up until around 4 months, because I started noticing a natural pattern developing for sleeping and eating, which became our schedule.

Re: How did you chart everything after DC came home from the hospital???
Let me start by saying I have slight OCD and organize EVERYTHING. I made spreadsheets and charts to hang on the fridge, I had a notebook and a pad.
By day 3 I was no longer using any of it.
I would say a notebook/pad is fine. Mainly you just need to watch diapers. Sydnie fed allll the time. Hopefully, you will have nothing to do except take care of the baby so you will probably remember the last time you nursed etc. Try not to stress over it. Just read the baby's cues and go with it. Good luck and congratulations!!!!!

I used a steno pad. I kept track for 3 months until I went back to work.
It's a great keepsake now and in her memory box.

I never even thought of using a chart. For a few days I used a memo pad, but that's about it.

Re: How did you chart everything after DC came home from the hospital???
We didn't keep track of anything....we even forgot to chart stuff in the hospital...the nurses would come in and ask when we changed/fed her and we couldn't remember
We fed on demand and changed her everytime we fed her, or if she felt wet or was dirty.
We lucked out and she didn't spit up really at all so we didn't have to worry about that.

Re: How did you chart everything after DC came home from the hospital???
DH created a chart in Word and printed out multiple blank pages for us to keep track initially. We had stuff like the time, how many oz he drank (pumped BM), wet/dry/poopie diaper, extra notes (if he spit up), how long he slept, etc. After a few weeks we got into a pattern and ditched the chart. It was helpful though at the beginning, especially in the middle of the night when DH nor I could remember the last time we fed him- so we looked at our chart

Re: How did you chart everything after DC came home from the hospital???
I bought a book called the Eat, Sleep, Poop jourmal ( got it online, loved it!)
I could NEVER have done without a chart, I was on NO sleep for the first few weeks and my son went from 3-4 1/2 hours between eating so since it was not consistent, I could NEVER remember when he last ate and needed that....
Or I just used a piece of paper...but I would lose those too much. ( hence why I got the book)

Re: How did you chart everything after DC came home from the hospital???
Charlotte is 14m and I still chart
For the first 6 months I charted everything: diapers, sleep, nursing, table food. Then I got an iPhone and started using an app to keep track of her diapers, sleep & table food...& any time I give her medicine, etc. I'd like to say I have a great memory but it seems to get sucked out of me with each nursing session so I find charting, comforting.

Re: How did you chart everything after DC came home from the hospital???
Someone gave me the Skip Hop Organizer at my baby shower and I used it for a few days then stopped, then started again when I felt unsure of what i was doing.
It really is hard the first few weeks. At each feeding, I couldn't remember which boob DD had fed from previously!

OMG! I soo wish I knew about that book! Iw as looking for something just like that!
We made our own version.. ...still use it to this day and she is 7 weeks 1 day told. We used a spiral notebook (pink for my little ) and organized it as follows: Date on top and how many days old she is (the # of days old was more helpful in the beginning) Then we would write the time on the left hand side and what occured (e.x. feeding with # of oz, diaper change and whether it was poop/urine or both and color, naps/ sleeping time.
On the top of each page I would total the # of wet diapers she had each day and poop diapers that way I can quickly tell if something was off as well as trend her from day to day and week to week.
Also....bc I am OCD i would circle the day/time in red when we increased her formula to make it easier to refer to when the pediatrican asked.
Honestly, it is a life saver bc sometimes in the middle of the night I can't remember a thing!
