How did you go on interviews while at a job
I have decided to look for another job. I have started to send out resumes and actually have an interview on Monday but it's mid morning. I told my immediate supervisor I had an appointment I had to go to.
But going forward I dont think that line is going to work. I could go on my lunch hour but what if the interview and even traveling takes longer then the hour?
What did you do when interviewing and still currently looking.
Thanks

Re: How did you go on interviews while at a job
UGH I went through this for over a year while I was searching. I interviewed as early as 7am if the interviewer did not mind. Lunch time was very difficult unless wherever I was going was 10 min away, then at least I had about 30-40 min to interview. But it was tight. Once I was gone for almost 2 hrs but hey I ended up getting the job I have now which I really like
After work is ok too, although some people prefer not to stay late at work. They will ask you when you are available and you can say well, the best times are early morning, lunch time or after work, however I am willing to be flexible. If they say come in at 10am, wll that's when it gets hard and you have to lie - which I hated to do. So best thing to do is see how flexible they are.
I hope your search is short and productive !

Re: How did you go on interviews while at a job
As previous poster said, I would try and get a before or after work inteview however most prospective employers aren't willing to do that. try to schedule during lunch which again can be a little tricky. Usually I would tell my job the day or so before that I scheduled a dr appointment during my lunch hour and that I may be a little late. Dont be afraid to ask for the first interview of the day (so you can come in late) or the last interview of the day (so you can leave early). Sometimes I would try to schedule several interviews for the same day and I would just take a vacation day. It can be a very time consuming process and I burned a lot of my vacation time (through days off and half days). I also seemed to get "sick" a lot. Another thing, how flexible the interviewer is in scheduling can be a very good indicator of how good the company is. I found that the places that were most inflexible reflected that in their work environment. Good luck in your job search! Hope you find something quick!!!

Re: How did you go on interviews while at a job
Thanks.
I have an interview on Monday at 11am. I tried to schedule it during my lunch (which is scheduled) but they have a set time of when they can schedule interviews and I was told this interview can take 1 - 2 hours because they will be doing a microsoft office test first then the interview.
I am just trying to figure out how I am going to go on interviews with out them knowing. Especially when a majority of these interviews are all going to involve some type of drive to get too.
I really hope I find something soon because I do not like my new position and the environment around me.

Re: How did you go on interviews while at a job
I take a 1/2 a personal day or vacation day or schedule interviews outside of work hours. I went on a few that let me interview at 6pm.

Re: How did you go on interviews while at a job
It is very hard. I have gone on early interviews, late interviews, lunch time and come in late. It gets tricky and I am at the point of almost impossible. Good luck!

Re: How did you go on interviews while at a job
I go for very late morning appt 11:30am or 1:30am. Then I tell people I need to take an earlier or later lunch. I found it worked best for me. Or I take a VERY late afternoon interview. Anything after 4pm (I work through lunch and say I have to leave early).

Re: How did you go on interviews while at a job
its tough - fortunately most people did (and after all, should IMO) understood that I was currently employeed and therefore let me come in early or late. On the rare occasion that an early interview ran over, i would just call my boss and say that my train was delayed and i'd be in soon.
when i was at my second job and actually got a lunch hour, i would also go then. but i'm in the city so the commute was easier via subway.

Re: How did you go on interviews while at a job
Just wanted to add one more thing...since I interview people too, I am 99% of the time willing to be flexible in terms of coming in early, staying late to meet with someone if they candidate seems strong. If they are not willing to be flexible, that may be a red flag as to the type of environment they are.

Re: How did you go on interviews while at a job
Thanks everyone. It's been pretty quiet and not many interviews have been getting scheduled. I am keeping my fingers crossed that something will come up. I am thinking maybe b/c of the short week a lot of companies arent doing many interviews.
My place is hell and I cant wait to get out of it
