SPINOFF to myspace and job interviews
in that thread there was a comment made that some employers google applicant's names.
i'm curious... i've googled myself. apparently there is a famous pilates instructor (who has books and videos) who shares a name with me.
what if they google you and it's not you?

that's a very good point. i would hope, if they found something negative associated with your name, that they would do future research. it would be scary to think it could hurt a job prospect. i feel like mainly people in college or just out of college have the most to worry about. i know my myspace page is boooooooring!
there is a famous writer with my name...and my name isn't common at all!

I would hope that they would do this. Especially for my FSIL - there is an "adult entertainer" with her name. 
As part of the conferences I've attended that have included HR professionals, there have been sessions on the ethics and legality of using informatin found in cyberspace in the hiring decision making process. Since I don't fit in that category, I didn't attend the sessions, but perhaps an HR professional could comment?

My DH will only google a candidate he's interested in, so if his/her resume looks good then he'll most likely give them the benefit of the doubt. Although, he has been known to bring stuff up in interviews, which usually takes the candidate by surprise - that's probably part of his reasoning for doing it anyway, to see how the candidate reacts under pressure.
It's always a good idea to google yourself so that you're aware of what's out there.

I apparently have a page on IMDB with some very respectable acting credits (ER, Law and Order and Third Watch). Funny, I don't remember having a SAG card, yet I am full of drama and comedy.

Under my new name, Christina Auguliera and her husband come up. Apparently I have a combination of their two names.

Me too! I am Catherine Zeta-Jones assistant!
Funny thing is, this person did work for CJZ for T-Mobile which is an account for my old company...I have mixed up with her several times for expense reports and I even got billed for taxes SHE did not pay!

There is an adult enteraitner with my maiden name too. Apprently she has even started magazine for her particular genre, which is large nekkid women.
I hope people would realize we are two different people, b/c if I started a magazine, it would definitely be on my resume!
