How do bumpers work with a drop-side crib?

Does one side of the bumpers just slide down with the drop-side? Doesn't that mess up the bumper somehow. Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but I was in the store the other day and it was very awkward to drop the side with the bumper tied to it. TIA!

Mine drops fine. The bumpers aren't tied so tight that the bars can't move. And the rail doesn't go all the way down so its not trying to go further than the bumper will let it.
