How do I dispose of needles?

Strangest question.. but, about a year ago I had to take meds through needles for a few months. I have had the sharps containers on my counter for a year because I literally have no idea what to do with them....

CVS won't take them.

My mom tells me to bring them to NUMC and that they have to take them. How on earth do I do that? Walk into the ER and hand it to the first nurse I see

I am sure there is an easier way and I really need to just get rid of them.

Can someone advise me? I am in Southeast Nassau.

ETA: I am glad I posted this here. I called the nursing home down the block and they take them. I had no idea they could. The thought of parking and trying to navigate NUMC was exhausting to me.

How do I dispose of needles?

Call your town and ask if you can throw them out with recycling, if not you should be able to bring it back to the dr that presrcibed the meds. You could bring it to the hospital as well i guess.

I know that South Nassau Communities Hospital has a drop off where they will dispose of them for you (near the ER). I would call the nearest hospital to you and ask where in the hospital you should bring them.

I was told to put them in a heavy plastic bottle - like a detergent bottle. Put a little bleach in the bottom and then put the top on and seal the top with something like duct tape. Throw it out with the regular garbage. I was told to absolutely NOT put it in with the recyclables. This was what they told me when I called Brookhaven town.

Nuring homes take them. Look on the NYS website. They give you the info about which ones take them. Then just call to see what day.

You used to be able to put them in the trash labeled but I have a jug of them on my table too and when I looked 2 weeks ago it said you CANNOT put them out with the trash.

I brought a container to the hospital and the guy at the front desk took it from me.

Call your Dr's office & see if they will take them for you.

Methadone clinics usually have needle drop boxes outside of their locations as well...they look like UPS drop boxes.

I am a gestational diabetic, and on our town website it tells you how to dispose of needles in the regular garbage. For me, I can use an empty laundry detergent container, write with marker on it "needles" and when disposing of it, I have to double bag it.

At numc go down to the old er entrance right inside the sliding doors is the drop off. I usually go on a Saturday or Sunday and just leave in the pail. Put them in some
Plastic container like milk or soda.

i am in nyc but my dh is dsny and he told me to put them in a large jug,like detergent duct tape the top and label it sharps/medical waste

and do not put it in the garbage to leave the container next to the pail
