How Do I teach my Son to ride a bike?
It may sound like a silly question but I can't get my son to push the pedals on his bike and he is going to be 3 next week. He just sits on it and plays with the frilly things that hang on the side of the handle bars...LOL LOL LOL
DH has gotten out his bike and rode it around the yard to show him how it's done and DS just watches and claps his hands at DH.
Do you ladies have any tips?

did you put his feet on pedals and move them with your hands? He may not know to flex his toes foward to pull it back after its gone all the way forward.. Did I make sense describing?

3 is still kind of young. Yes, some DC can do it at that age, but I definitely wouldn't push (verbally... feel free to push him around once he's on the bike... )

Maybe you are right. I don't mind pushing him in the bike but my bad back does...LOL

IMO, I think 3 is too young to "get it" enough to pedal a bike.
I know I didn't ride a bike until I was about 5

Is there anywhere in your area where other little kids ride their bikes? Seeing the other kids might motivate him a little more.
My BIL was a little over 2 when he rode a 2 wheeler, only because his 3 year old brother was able to do it and he was just trying to follow him.

Re: How Do I teach my Son to ride a bike?
This is the one DS got at his 2nd birthday. He sat on it all winter and pressed the buttons (lights and sounds)
Just last month, we took it outside, put him on it and placed his feet on the pedals. When you push the bike, the pedals automatically go in the circular motion as if they were pedaling. Then we would stop and I would tell him to push with his feet, while I pushed on his foot with my hand. Repeat, repeat, repeat.
It took a few time of us doing this and now he kind of got the hang of it. If we get him started and cheer "keep pushing" while running along side him like idiots he will go a good distance. GL
eta: it's the Fisher Price Hot Wheels Lights & Sounds Trike

Re: How Do I teach my Son to ride a bike?
Maybe its his bike. Kaitee has this tricycle:
tike
I chose that one because I had 3 friends that had 2 year olds that were able to ride it. But Kaitee just couldn't do it.
We went to her friends birthday party and she hopped on his trike and rode it like she had been doing it forever. I am not sure what kind it was but here is a video of her riding it:
Kaitee riding
I think it was easier for her because her feet were lower so it was easier to push with her feet. For her 3rd birthday(August 1st) we are going to get a bike with training wheels because I know she will be able to ride that even though she still can't make her trike move.
