How do you deal with people who lie?

Or are just so fake in general?

Do you call them out on it? You know for sure that they are lying...

You can't call them out directly. That's too obvious and people won't believe you.
You have to be underhanded and let them be caught out there in their own lies.

I called my SIL out on it one time, she damn near fell on the floor got all and left my apt. I have no issue calling people out on a lie of I know FOR SURE they are infact lying.

Normally I call them out, but a certain couple in my life decided that I was the malicious one and are tearing me apart in one breath and then pretending to extend friendship back again in another .. sorry for the mini vent

Depends on the lie . I usually try to hint around to let them know I know they are lying ,or I walk away doing this

i love them, anyway.

for whatever reason, both my parents are huge liars. i just keep living my life. i just don't share much with either... although, the funny thing is: my father has gotten better with age and lies less; my mother, just the opposite

It depends - if they're pathological - I weed them out of my life.

If they're lying about gossip - I call them out.

If they're just exaggerating - I listen politely while internally rolling my eyes.

9/10 I just let them live with their lie. I figure they have their own reason and own problems.

IF the lie is hurting me or someone I love - I will call them out privately and explain that I know they are lying and why their lie is hurtful.

Depends on the circumstance & how it affects me.

I've met two pathological liars before. I found them amusing & liked to question them on their stuff to see what they'd come up with.

If they were lying in a circumstance where it would affect me or other people's lives - relationships, work, etc., then I would have to say something.

They usually have enough rope to hang themselves and do.

It only bothers me when it's done to gain something...sympathy, help, etc. Usually all those around them know that they are lying and have accepted them for who there are.

One of my best friends is a huge liar...she makes up sh*t as she goes along...I've gotten over it because none of it is done maliciously. She just feels like she needs to prove something to others...like who she is, what she has (which is more than I have btw), what she's doing with her life and her relationship with her DH is not good enough. It's annoying but I've learned to deal

People who lie maliciously are immediately cut out of my life...that's something I will never put up with.

My sister and mother do this all the time. My sister is the type of person who will tell you it's raining when it's clearly sunny out. She lies and believes in those lies. Odd.

I want to call them out on it all the time but I just ignore it to avoid family fights. My parents play favorites and if I was to call out the lies then they would take my sisters side and make me the bad one.

It's annoying.

I kind of sit back and feel real sorry for them and the life they must lead to have to make up such lies and be so fake to make themselves feel better.

ETA - the truth will ALWAYS come out one way or another...so you really will just have to be patient for it all to blow up.

If it's not affecting my life in anyway (other than being annoying), i don't say or do anything- what's the point?

If it is- then i say something. I dont call them out on it necessarily, but just basically say i'd rather not talk about anything that just hear a bunch of BS (this is a recurring theme in my convo's with my mom- though she has actually gotten better). I think that some people dont actually realize how theyre lying- sometimes they look at things differently, interpret it differently. And then there's also the whole aspect of how can you be positive about them lying (though, of course this all depends on the circumstances)...

As far as being fake- imo, that's all relative. There are plenty of people that i think are fake, but others think they're awesome. I just kind of laugh about them to myself and move on.

I tend not to forget when someone lies to me. I do not always call them on it, though.

There is really only one person in my life like this. Unless the rest are all REALLY good liars.

I tend to ignore it, because unless it's a total lie, it's not hurting anyone. I tend to just roll my eyes and move on with my life.

I am dealing this with my office mate now. Honestly, I am a total wimp but, I am afraid she is going to try and take me down by lying... so I don't know. Right now, I complain to my friends about it. But, honestly, I don't know.
