That is gross unless you are camping, roadside emergency or a super gross bathroom.

It doesn't sound like above fit into any of those scenerios.

My son started peeing standing up 2.5 years and by about 2.8 he could do everything himself so that is just pure lazyiness and disgusting.

I don't understand what is so hard about having the child go into the bathroom himself (especially by 4).

Edited to add.. I'm super proud to have one of the few young 3's who will get out of a pool to use the potty. I think it is disgusting when we are out swimming and you know that some kids have been in their forever and don't get out to pee..

Yeah...I find that gross. My son is 3 and knows to get out of the pool and go in the house. I don't care if he leaves a trail of water inside, at least he's not skeeving people out when we have company.

Please do not say mean things to me!

I do let my sons (ages 3 and 4) to pee IN OUR BACKYARD ONLY, and NEVER if anyone else is around. If we are alone in the yard, and they HAVE to go, and they are wet from being in the pool, then I let them.

Sorry, but sometimes when they have to go, they have to go. And when we are home in our own backyard, who cares? They NEVER do it at anyone elses home. They know the rules.

Edited to add: if a child of one of my friends peed in my yard, I honestly would not care. YOUNG kids (under the age of say 5 or 6) are unpredictable in their ability to "hold it" till they reach a bathroom. If it were an older child, I would be grossed out.

you are a HORRIBLE mom!

LOL just kidding, I have to completely agree with you,
Its not like if we are in the house and my 2& 3 year old have to go
I make them go out & find a tree,

BUT I have let my boys do this if we are in the pool and they have to go. (No-not in the pool--behind a tree!)

If they were older-no way.
hey-its one of the beauties of having boys-lol!

I can see this happening at home in an emergency but at someone else's house!! And like 5 times. The bathroom wasn't far away. Chat Icon

Re: How do you feel about children peeing in your backyard?

It's gross. Period. I have a boy and he pees in the toilet unless were are miles from a bathroom. I remember I was at WDW with my sister and nephews. We were at Fantasmic, all the way in the back up against the trees and my five year old nephew had to go so instead of his dad leaving with him to use a bathroom he had him turn around and pee on the trees Chat Icon Chat Icon

Besides the gross factor, I think it teaches bad habits and mixed messages.

I think especially when they are so young and you are trying to teach them to go in a potty/toilet, it must be confusing to say you have to pee in a potty, but its okay to pee in our back yard, oh but its not okay to pee in anyone elses backyard. I would think that would create alot of confusion for a young child.

Also I would imagine that nobody's yard is so far away that you couldn't make it to the potty. I could understand you are out somewhere and a potty is no where in sight, well than that is an emegency.

Same here. I don't even think he realizes that peeing in the pool might be an option Chat Icon I feel like we are taking a trip to the bathroom 100 times everytime we are in the pool!!

I agree with you!!!! Especially if you are in the pool and have more than one child... to dry everyone off and go inside could be a big production!!

Re: How do you feel about children peeing in your backyard?

We've had to use the bushes 2x in Amber's life for emergencies (1x while we were driving and the next available rest stop was like 25 miles away and one day when we were taking down someone's pool and the homeowners weren't home; behind the shed). As it was, I was mortified but hey, little ones have no concept of holding it for extended periods. That being said, I would never allow her to go pee in someone's yard if the bathroom was readily available. Nevermind in front of everyone. Holy gross!!

That is so wrong!!

If its your own house, OK- its not my thing, but who am I to tell another parent how to raise their child.

But to have your child pee in *SOMEONE ELSE'S* backyard, that's just rude- and while other people are there- that's just wrong.

I agree!

Re: How do you feel about children peeing in your backyard?

My son was permitted to pee outside once...

After being in the car 4hrs, being stuck in traffic, miles from a rest stop.

Since then he has asked to go pee-pee on the tree several timesChat Icon For some reason this excites him.

I have made it clear, that going pee-pee on the tree is wrong, and DS would never pull down his pants and go...

He always heads straight for the house....

(accidents however are a totally different story)

Kids who pee outside are going to get poison ivy on their ding-a-lings.

Re: How do you feel about children peeing in your backyard?

I wouldn't say it's GROSS... I mean Lord knows how many cats, dogs, squirrels and birds have done bigger business than peeing in my yard. And I KNOW that my boys have run to pee behind the shed once in a while when they are engrossed in a game and don't feel like running all the way back in to the house. But I don't encourage it, I don't joke about it and I would be MORTIFIED if either of them decided to whip it out in someone elses yard!! But if that parent wasn't upset or embarrassed I wouldn't be upset for her. To each his or her own!

This is exactly what I was going to say. Or even in YOUR OWN yard for some reason that I can't really imagine at the moment.

But it is disgusting to think that this kid's mom and dad could just stand up, hold his hand and walk him to the potty, but instead sent him to go find a tree.Chat Icon

In some kind of emergency OK fine, it's better than wet clothes I guess but it's not something that anyone should have their child make a habit of. I'm a pretty liberal, open minded person but somethings are better behind closed doors.
