how do you feel about this? (OBGYN related)
My OBGYN's office is part of a womens health group. I just got a letter in the mail saying they are now offering more aesthetic services (laser treatment, botox, etc.)
How do you feel about this? IDK. i think it's kind of weird that the OBGYNs office is turning into a bit of a medi-spa....but maybe this is just part of the bigger group...
thoughts?

Re: how do you feel about this? (OBGYN related)
I wouldn't care. I do see the correlation as being targeted for women in an OB setting. If you don't like it, don't partake in those services. The fact that they offer those services will have no impact on the quality of your visits. It's not like the doctor is gonne be up your vag and giving someone botox at the same time

Re: how do you feel about this? (OBGYN related)
It doesn't bother me either...my previous GP had the same thing going on. From a business stand point, it makes sense since women are more likely to be interested in those types of services. As long as you are satisfied with the care you receive from your doctor, wouldn't give it another thought.

Re: how do you feel about this? (OBGYN related)
My OBGYN started offering similar services awhile ago and I got a letter like that in the mail.
It doesn't bother me - I'm not looking to get those services, but I've always read that when it comes to things like that, it's best to get them in a doctor's office (not, say, a Botox party at someone's house). So I guess it's only natural for a women's doctor to have those services available in the office?

Re: how do you feel about this? (OBGYN related)
Yeah mine does too. It really seems like they ALL do now. I find it a bit odd- but am not bothered by it. It's not like the OBGYNS are doing the cosmetic work- they have outside people come in to do it- they just rent out the office space

Re: how do you feel about this? (OBGYN related)
I think it would really hurt to get botox & laser treatments down there
I think that kind of practice is better left to dermatologist offices.

Re: how do you feel about this? (OBGYN related)
It's not something I would opt for, but after having a discussion with one of the doctors in the practice about the cost of malpractice insurance, I can see why they might want to bring additional revenue into the office.

See, that's where it BELONGS! I would be very off-put if my OB/GYN started offering cosmetic treatments. I don't care if they performed it or hired people from outside. Just because someone's an MD doesn't mean they are skilled to administer Botox, this drives me nuts! I just find it so tacky. I'd consider leaving my OB if I saw this there.

I guess it's better than your derm trying to get all into your goodie box.

I feel the same way. I was at a dentist office one time that had a sign for Botox.
I would never go to anyone other than a dermatologist or plastic surgeon for this.

Yeah but she said her ob is now part of a medical GROUP...there could be dermatologists in the group...

Re: how do you feel about this? (OBGYN related)
EVERYONE is now offering aesthetic services. doctors are suffering. they are doing anything and everything to increase revenue. cash procedures vs. billable is their bread and butter when reimbursments are at all time lows.
i am someone who sells medical devices to doctors in this field i do it for a living. i sell a skin tightening device to everyone from OB/GYN to ENT to derm to plastics to oral max. it is just the way it is.
these docs go to their national society annual meetings and are bombarded by skin tightening and fillers and ablative lasers etc etc etc. there is no way around it.
my advice, make sure the doctor is trained (and fully understands the procedure and has experience) before undergoing these services.

MDs and DOs cannot purchase Botox from Allergan without training. They dont just sell the stuff to doctors and say "go to town." Doctors spend thousands to go to seminars and preceptorships to learn how to inject, the anatomy to avoid etc. It is monitored, not just a free forall.
Now, I agree that not everyone should be able to offer it but this is the nature of the business. The nature of EVERY business.
Bottom line, do your homework. Make sure your provider is well versed in WHATEVER procedure you are paying them for.

Re: how do you feel about this? (OBGYN related)
It is a good moneymaker for them so I am not suprised. MD's are not the only one of administer these services. The MD has to oversee the facility but aside from trained MD's also trained PA's, NP's and RN's can administer these beauty treatments. Ultimately in these "Medi-spas" for this type of beauty treatments MDs need to oversee and sign off on all activity AND that doesn't neessarily mean that they are present in the office all the time either. Bottom line is that there is huge money to be made with these injections and fillers
