How do you follow politics?
I feel as if so many people are much more knowledgable than I am about politics.
Is it that you constantly read the news? How is everyone already speaking with such a convicted understanding of some of trumps appointed positions? Did you research these people in the past few days since he was elected? Did you know specific details about them prior to their appointment?
I try to stay abreast of politics, but I feel as if I will never have enough time to have an understanding of so many complexities/nuances/historical records of the topic. Not to mention how much more difficult it all is due to the mass bias that exists in almost every news source.

How do you follow politics?
I struggle to keep up and understand as politics has never been my thing. I watch the new when I get the chance and try to watch a variety of outlets. There's so much being shared on fb these days so I read articles of interest and research for more info when I need to.
Eta- DH and I have been liking vice news on HBO as a quick way to get a daily rundown. Also, they're clearly liberal but John Oliver and the daily show are entertaining ways to stay informed.

Re: How do you follow politics?
I was a political science major, which helps I think. I watch and read the news, and I speak to people regularly who are watching and reading both the same and different news. If I hear a headline or tidbit that interests me (either positive or negative) I do a google search to try to find out more. I'm on twitter, and I follow news sources, so I get the headlines in real time and then follow up on what I want to know more about.

Re: How do you follow politics?
I grew up in a very political house. My parents conservatives and my nana who lived with us while I was growing up very liberal. Politics and history were a topic of conversations every night at the table. I grew up watching a lot of news which I still do. I watch the news when I get up in the morning and before I go to bed at night and I read a lot. A lot of politics is understanding what has happened through the years and trying to make sense of where it is going.

Re: How do you follow politics?
I follow a lot of news sources, follow another politics message board that I don't post on, and I read A LOT. I really try to inform myself because I'll look uninformed here (encouraged to talk politics) if I don't know what's going on. I'll also look silly at my work if I do not know the latest current events.
There is s colleague I talk to for a few hours a week about politics, and DH is really into politics, so we talk about it a lot. He's on a break now.
I don't watch the news too much. Just read.

Re: How do you follow politics?
I love information in general, so I'm constantly doing research on all sorts of things. Some of the things I (and DS) look into are very random (The "22" in "Catch-22" was picked out randomly by the author of the book with that name. It was originally "Catch-18"... ), and often it's about relevant topics going on, whether it's politics, military (They are making progress on taking back Mosul from ISIS... about 1/3 liberated so far), natural disasters (New Zealand was hit with a 7.8 earthquake yesterday), science, etc.

I read and research everything. If I see a dumb post, I research it to find out it's validity. I watch all news networks and go from there.

Re: How do you follow politics?
Combo of having the news on 24/7 some days, reading online, reading the paper, getting info from very informed people I know and trust (some just your average person and some who are much more involved in the news).
