Touchy subject on Politics... do I dare do it? YES Obama vs Clinton

What are your thoughts/predictions on Hilary vs. Obama?

He would be the 1st black man President
She would be the 1st female president

I think I'd like to see a Hillary/Obama ticket. Or Obama/Hillary. If they're together, I think they'll win. My immediate vote is for Hillary, but the two together would be a good thing as well.

Re: Touchy subject on Politics... do I dare do it? YES

I LOVE Bill Clinton. I feel a draw to Hilary because it would bring Bill back intot he White House. but I don't like Hillary. I think she's too moderate and calculating.

I ADORE Barack Obama. He just inspires hope and he has a really great story. He seems like a regular intelligent person and to me he seems sincere (unlike Hillary). When he gave his speech at the DNC in 2004 I thought "That man will be president!"

I would be extremely excited and proud to have a black or female president ( In 2012 - a black female? A black female lesbian jew? Let's make it happen!)

Would they say both "settle" for VP job?

I agree

but I fear this mix is too progressive for much of our country

it makes me nervous that if we - meaning the democrats -nominate one or both of them- we might be in trouble again

but with Hil - comes Bill- and say what you want- he was good for this country

I think it's unsettling if people vote for them based solely on that fact (or, don't in spite of it). And, sadly, i think their race and gender will play a more significant role in the country's decision than their actualy platforms.

It will be in some States. A black man vs a woman.

DH and I were actually thinking that Obama would need to be extremelly careful for his life if he is elected President.

I thought this at first, but now I really don't think it's the case. I'm sure htere are some people who will not vote for a back or female president and some people who might only vote for thoe reasons, but as the 3 ways rave has shown, I think it is about issues, and of course personality...

I'm not saying you are wrong in saying this, but that kind of statement makes me really Chat Icon

Just the fact that it might be true and that there are people who would actually try to kill someone - a presidnet no less- because of race. SOmetimes I am amazed at how far our society has NOT come

I lived in the South for many years. Some people have not get over the Civil War yet. VERY TRUE!! One person who was 25 years old told me that Yankees (people from NY or North of the Border) should have never won the war and that her "grandpa" would still have slaves and they would not be poor like now. And that it ruined her life Chat Icon The Confederate flag is still very present in many States.

Yes, it is sad but it's reality.

My next door neighbor used to have one and so did my sister's ex boyfrined (who was from the south)... I could never live in the south. Racism is bad enough here in the melting pot. I would be fighting with people 24.7.

I live in South Carolina. Just moved down here about a month ago. This is actually my second time living here. Charleston is a pretty progressive area. I've seen Obama and Hillary stickers on cars. I've met progressives and independents and conservatives who are ready to get the country back on track and who think Obama is the guy to do it. Just like ANYPLACE, racism exists. Some people here are more in your face about it. I found that when I lived up north (both Ohio and Long Island) people just hid their prejudices/racism better till they knew how you felt. There are many here who are working to fight the "Old South" attitude, including me. Please don't count out an entire region because some ignorant people cling to an old way of life. I met some big "rednecks" up there on the island, including a female patient who shocked me into silence when she informed me that Bayshore and Farmingville were ruined when "those kind" moved there. No place is perfect!

i have to say, i agree with all of the above. as of right now, i am voting for hilary, not because she is a woman, but because of her campaign platform. i like obama, and he might be an inspiration to people, but my main concern is what a candidate is going to do as president - not where they came from beforehand.

Re: Touchy subject on Politics... do I dare do it? YES Obama vs Clinton

I think that both Hilary and Obama are risky candidates for the Democratic party.

I think it's interesting that Obama came in first in Iowa and Hilary came in third.

I was watching the results on BBCWorld News this moring, and they pointed out that rural Iowa is about 90% white. they offered no other commentary.

I think this country would more readily elect a black man than any woman, but I think either candidate is putting their lives on the line.

there are people that will take none too kindly to either a black man or a woman in the white house.

being the first of anything in this country is tantamount to putting a bullseye on your back.

I wish them luck and I wish them well.

still not sure who I will vote for. I want to see if there is any flip flopping in the coming months.

I would rather become president than have Hillary Clinton! I personally think she is the worst candidate ever!

I agree. I love Obama... His speech last night gave me chills. I love how he tries to get past the fear and divisivness that so many other candidates get stuck in

to be honest, I think they cancel each other out...they are both postering to the same group of voters, and I can't see how it's not going to get split right down the middle....

Re: Touchy subject on Politics... do I dare do it? YES Obama vs Clinton

Im at a complete loss for politics. I have never followed it.

I would like to get to know a little bit more about each candidate. Is there a website I can go to that compares each candidate in terms of issues & such? Sort of like a Election 2008 for Dummys kind of thing. I am totally lost & I cant imagine voting for anyone without making a descision based on solid knowlege.

I believe that this is probably the biggest reason why there are alot of non-voters out there. They simply do not have enough facts to base an educated opinion on.

Thanks.
