How do you go on interviews??
I'm a teacher in the DOE and have gotten 2 calls from Long Island districts for interviews. The thing is, I absolutely cannot take time off from work to go on interviews or do demo lessons. This time of year as you all know is insane!
So what do you do?

I think you have to take off. I am calling in candidates for interviews and it's literally a one day window; if someone can't make the interview we move on to the next candidate. There are 100 plus applicants for every job, it's easy to be selective even though it sucks for the candidates.

I tried to schedule them so I would only have to take a half day. Try to give the kids meaningful work. I teach HS so that would probably be a practice Regents at this point. I have also videoed myself giving a lesson so that we can keep moving along with the content - not ideal, but at least I didn't lose a day.

Re: How do you go on interviews??
The answer is you have to take off. If you're not willing to take off in the late Spring / early Summer especially after budgets pass you're not going to get a Long Island position.
Remember that you will also need to take off for follow-up interviews with the central office for a LI position.

Re: How do you go on interviews??
Thanks everyone. I'm not willing or able to take time off of work to go on interviews. I'm going to have to "hold out" for a district willing to accommodate a later afternoon interview or stay put for now.

You have to do whatever you are comfortable doing. I just got called for grand jury duty so I will be out more or less ALL of June, which stinks, but it is what it is.

Unfortunately, I really haven't heard of districts doing after school interviews and the demos obviously have to be done during the school day. All of the subs and leaves that I work with that are applying for full time jobs have their interviews during the day and they need to take time off

Re: How do you go on interviews??
So it turns out that some districts DO have interviews scheduled after hours
Have a 4:15 one set for next week
