How do you guys do it (hosting a holiday with kids in the house?)
Seriously, how do you clean and cook and set up when all that takes hours and hours (over days and days) and you still have kids to take care of?
Just so curious because I give anyone who hosted holiday dinners AND has kids a LOT of credit!!!
Okay, now tell me how you do it?

OMG...of all years (with a 2 year old and a 7 month old) I hosted Christmas Eve and Christmas Day--and I cooked EVERYTHING on Christmas Day!! Honestly, I don't know how I did it, but I can tell you this...in the middle of the whole thing, I went up into my attic and sat down and cried before composing myself and pouring a LARGE glass of wine!!
ETA...I also started tearing up this morning because of all the leftover stress...sigh!

We hosted Christmas for 13 people in our home for the first time (we just moved into the house this summer and have a 4 month old). Of the 13 guests, 5 are staying with us. Lots of fun, but lots of work. I would say this year was a learning year for us. Though the holiday was great, we will get more organized and do a lot more ahead of time in the years to come.

Also, wanted to add that the MIL was a HUGE help (my mom too, but not as much).

We did it buffet style. I didn't bother with a formal table. It was just too much extra work to iron and set it. We decided next year though that we're going to just do lots of appetizers. Everyone is full from Christmas Eve anyway. I definitely felt like I couldn't enjoy DD with all her toys because I was busy in the kitchen.
