How do you handle traveling (by plane) with a child with tree nut allergies?

My granddaughter is almost 2 1/2 and has severe tree nut allergies. The dr. said to avoid ALL tree nuts but there are a few specific ones that we know are a problem. The question is, we're considering a trip to Fla. to visit my mom (this is her only great grandchild) My daughter is freaking out about being on a plane (God forbid she has reaction) How do you handle traveling? What precautions can we take? We don't know if it's airborne. The allergist said with tree nuts they are usually NOT airborne, but if they are cooked, roasted whatever they emit a vapor that can cause a reaction. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you.
We are very careful about what she eats and are learning more each day, but we are just afraid of something happening when we are up in the air. We carry epi pens with us at all times.

I would call the airline and let them know before you travel.

I've been on more than a couple flights where they asked you to refrain from eating any kind of nuts because there was a severe allergy on board. Call the airline and also mention it when you board to the flight attendant

My daughter has a tree nut allergy, and we have only flown once-- and there was not a problem. Just bring wipes to clean every surface in your area, and your own food. I brought all of her allergy paperwork to keep with epi pen so I didn't have a prob at security.

We are flying again next month, and plan to do the same. She has certainly been in areas where there have been tree nuts, and only ever had her initial reaction when she actually touched/licked a nut at 21 months (she is now 4), which then we knew she was allergic after that episode.

If you are cautious and prepared, I don't think will be an issue.

If you are worried, can you do Amtrak? It might not be the fastest option but we did it once, more for the experience with the kids and they LOVED it. You drive down to DC, put your car on the train and then take the train to FL from there. We got a "family room" and it was great for us, and the kids could walk around and they were so excited to be on the train ride.
