How do you make a bridal/baby showers more "Fun"
My friend and I were explaining to the guys the other day how showers are genrally not fun. They may be for the guest of honor but not so much for the guests. Any ideas on how to make them fun.With any luck i will planning a bridal shower for my friend in the next year or so! And I know about all the games like bingo etc etc, any other new ideas?

I had a small scrapbook (8x8) that I gave to a friend last year for her sister's bridal shower. She was asking the same thing you are. My suggestion was to tell each of the shower attendees to:
1. Bring a picture of them with the bride. I had a nice piece of 8.8 paper already in the album -(it's easy to get - both Michaels and AC Moore carry 8.8 paper) - I brought some nice pens and adhesive. The ladies passed around the album, but the picture on a page and wrote a little something to the bride on the page. The ladies seemed to have fun, especially when "groups" of friends are sitting together and reminisce about pictures and tell stories. It seemed to help them pass the time and they played a few games as well.
2. Recipe/Cocktail time - ask each attendee to put their favorite recipe/cocktail mix on an 8.5x11 piece of paper - print with fancy font, etc. You get a small 3 ring binder and plastic sleevees for the binder (staples). Ask each attendee to write a little story to the bride on the recipe when they get to the shower - and pass the binder around - they all get talking once it gets passed around.

OMG How original! I LOVE this idea!! I would have loved receiving a gift like that!

My one friend suggested that I do the decorate a onsie thing for my baby shower.
I actually like that idea.. and I'm looking forward to actually doing this!!
I guess if you can find something that everyone would be happy to do and join in on.... that would be ideal. Sometimes they have games that make me uncomfortable or bored....

YES! People always say games, but honestly, I can't stand shower games!
ETA: Ask guests not to wrap the gifts or wrap them in clear paper so they don't have to be opened.

I know this one isn't something that can be planned on , but the more fun the person of honor is having the more fun everyone else seems to have.

I was at a baby shower this past weekend and they had this. Personally I hated it. Some of the ladies seemed to really enjoy it, but I just am not an on the fly creative person, so I did not enjoy it.
I even turned to my mom and told her that we could skip the decorate the onesies at my baby shower (if I ever have one).

At SIL's baby shower we did a blind taste testing with SIL, her mom and MIL. We took the labels off a bunch of baby foods and labeled them A, B, C etc. and had them each taste it to see who could get the most right. It was hilarious - especially after MIL ran out of the room to spit out the Mac and Cheese because she thought it was lamb (she doesnt really like meat!!)

My mother planned my bridal shower on a fridy night with Booze! and can i tell you i have been married for 2 years and people still talk to me about my shower! LoL
A lot of the women liked the fact to have a girls night out on a friday night!

im sorry but showers are just not fun i only enjoy sitting around with my friends i dont see that often and chatting
i think everyone knows going in that showers arent that fun its just one of those things you have to do
i cant stand the games, we all end up cheating anyway
decorate a onesie i am so not creative i probably wouldnt do it anyway
sorry but thats my honest opinion

I always tell my DH that showers are womens way of torturing each other.
Slowly.
We all hate them- yet we all have them.
We all don't want to go- but we all go because so and so came to ours.
It's a vicious cycle.
I would GLADLY just send someone a gift if they did me the solid of NOT having an acutal shower.
But that will never happen.
It's too steeped in old school tradition!

OMG...my friend's mother was invited to a shower with a request like that. She thought it was the worst most rude thing ever and was so upset by the suggestion. We were planning her daughter's shower at the time so she mentioned it for weeks.

ITA! Booze and clear wrap have to be the best ideas. I didn't even enjoy opening the gifts at my shower cause I knew it meant everyone else was bored to be watching.

Yes. Older school moms and grandmas will be APPALLED by this.
APPALLED.
It's an old school thing.
I personally LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea.
But my mother would have fainted dead away....

She thought it was rude to be instructed on how to present the gift and said the gift opening is part of the shower tradition.

clear wrap BEST IDEA EVER
really you only watch them open your own gift and then go back to talking anyway
a friend had the clear wrap
we browsed the table at our convenience oohed and aahed over the gifts and that was that perfect
dont get me wrong i will gladly go to a friends shower to show support for them and that i care about them but its true that most people secretly dread them
