Booze!
And dont make people watch you open up all those gifts!!! Get a gift table and request to wrap in CLEAR!!! BORING (first time using this icon)
clear wrap BEST IDEA EVER really you only watch them open your own gift and then go back to talking anyway a friend had the clear wrap we browsed the table at our convenience oohed and aahed over the gifts and that was that perfect
dont get me wrong i will gladly go to a friends shower to show support for them and that i care about them but its true that most people secretly dread them
Lets be honest ladies .. isnt this the part we are talking about? It takes up like 2 hrs??? You cant make it fun if you do this.. So its eather you cant or you do away with opening them .. I did it and My 77yr old mother LOVED it ..

OMG...my friend's mother was invited to a shower with a request like that. She thought it was the worst most rude thing ever and was so upset by the suggestion. We were planning her daughter's shower at the time so she mentioned it for weeks.
I can see how it would be considered rude. Especially if it's a small shower where the gifts wouldn't take very long to open.
I went to a shower once with at least 100 women and watching the gift unwrapping was just torture. I think everyone would have appreciated clear wrapping that day lol. If I was planning a shower I would probably decide on requesting clear wrap based on how many people I was inviting.

Re: How do you make a bridal/baby showers more "Fun"
At my friend's shower we secretly wrote down everything she said as she was opening the presents (without telling her) and then afterward read back her comments as the things she would say on her wedding night. It was hysterical - especially "Ooooh, It's so big!" . . . all very funny out of context.
Otherwise they aren't much fun. I like them though. Especially if they are at a good catering hall or restaurant!

I love the Friday ngiht idea!
i was trying to hint for a cooking class shower or a citifield shower, but I think my mom and sis are going to insist on something more traditional.
I hate showers, but I'm sure I will love mine. PAYBACK!

Am I the only one who does not think they are so bad?
I get a kick out of watching the guest of honor enjoy themselves. It's a day out with other women and the meal is (hopefully) nice.
Maybe it's because I've never been to a really big one? The most people I've seen at a shower was 45 ish.

They did this at my bridal shower and I hated it. It was embarassing in front of my mother, grandmother, and aunts.
I went to a Jack and Jill baby shower where they had the guys play games like diapering the baby the fastest. That was funny.

My mother planned my bridal shower on a fridy night with Booze! and can i tell you i have been married for 2 years and people still talk to me about my shower! LoL
A lot of the women liked the fact to have a girls night out on a friday night!
This sounds like so much fun!
My bff's baby shower turned co-ed as soon as they finished opening gifts. It turned in to such a fun party with lots of drinking and dancing (no drinking for the mom to be, but she did dance!)
