How do you make Mommy friends?

I really need someChat Icon I tried the the gymnastics place with Andrew but no one is really that friendly there and most know each other already.

Do you think when he goes to Preschool next year it will be easier to meet people?

I am shy so it is very hard for meChat Icon

Re: How do you make Mommy friends?

I am in the same situation.

I was very hopeful that there would be more GTG's on her so I could form bonds with other moms, but after 1 1/2 years that still hasn't really been the case.

I'm having the same issue.

It's especially hard now that I'm a working mom. Some of the others I meet have been cool , but are SAHM and get together on the weekdays when I can't.

Chat Icon

I GTG with the girls here as often as I can, but I'm in NJ, so it's hard.

And I can't really make work mom friends because I'm HR and it can be a prickly situation.

So I'm hoping to get to know some of the daycare moms this weekend when we have the parents GTG.

Re: How do you make Mommy friends?

I am trying so hard. My main mommy squeeze is from LIF. Together, we go on different internet meetups.

We joined a SAHM group, they are very active. From there a found girl who lives in my neighborhood and we are trying to plan our walks together.

When I went all out to meet moms it cost me a bundle. I found that unless its an actually "I want to meet friends" meetup, its a hit or a miss.

Re: How do you make Mommy friends?

I don't know about Pre-school but classes are what worked for me. We met moms and babies through Gymboree and since we see them once per week we've gotten to know them well both in class and out of class and we got to classes/reading times offered at our library and met a nice group of moms that way that I've gotten close with. Also a support group for BFing moms helped a lot in the beginning too.

I am having a hard time too. I am a SAHM, and i just dont seem to be able to make any mommy friends. I found 1 really nice person in the 1 1/2 of having my boys.. I met her through the gym we go to.... (you know who you are) she intro'd me to this site and hoping to make more mommy friends.Chat Icon

Babygroups!!! Our local churches here all hold babygroups every day of the week. I met a load of girls (The Chorlton Bad Mothers Club) through Baby Massage and Oranges and Lemons. We see each other on our day off (we all arranged to have Mondays off) and now, since there is such a big group of us (over 20 girls and babies!!!) we are looking into renting our own church hall to hold our own babygroup on Monday afternoons.

Call around to some local churches to see if they do anything liike that...

eta...now we do lots of stuff without the babies, ie bookclub, out to dinner, hen nights...

I feel like you do. We're involved in one playgroup, but like you said, it seems most of the women know one another already...and because I'm so shy, it's hard to "break in." Katherine did start preschool in September 1 day a week and the moms that I've meet there are cool--I may ask one out soon! Chat Icon

You know what else....if they don't hold a babygroup, you could start one! Also, the Starbucks at my mall has a group of mothers and babies that meet there on Wednesdays...why not ask them if you could start a babygroup there. I am a big fan of the babygroup! Well, now the toddlergroup!!! Also, our local recreation center holds playgroups...

It's like dating all over again, isn't it?

I swear I get nervous sweats near some of the mommies.

"Do I ask them out?"

"What if they don't like me?"

"What if I don't like them?"

"Will Gymboree be awkward if we break-up?"

Re: How do you make Mommy friends?

it is just like dating!!!

should I return the call and put in the effort?

Is she going to be a stalker and I am going to regret giving my number?

I remember when Josh was still so little, I would pass the same moms daily on our walks. I wanted to work up the courage to invite one to starbucks...but I always feared Josh would want to nurse and my boob would be out on the first date.Chat Icon

Once I met a mom and the store and she gave me her number and I got scared and never called. Can you picture me at home dialing her number, then hanging up quickly, over and over again...lol What am I, 16? Chat Icon

I chicken out too. I don't know why. I always think that they won't like me or that I will be too boring for them.

Re: How do you make Mommy friends?

I have made a few friends on here. I wish I could do more playdates, but I only have two days off during the week and I get busy with errands sometimes. I would love to do more playdates on the weekends since I usually end up at the park oneday by myself.

I have tried to get some GTGs together but noone seemed that interested. Maybe I will try again, especially when I'm in my new house since I will have a lot more room.

I am having the same problem.

I though that once DS started school I would meet the other moms at the bus stop and in his class. They all know each other so well. I hate that I am so shy around new people.

Once my son started school, I made TONS of mommy friends. Sometimes WE have more fun together than the kids do! Chat Icon Before that, I really didn't know too many mommies in my neighborhood.

Re: How do you make Mommy friends?

I joined a moms group (I found online)that has playgroups, mom's night out, couples night out, and other get togethers. I joined when I was preggo. It has been the best thing for me.

Re: How do you make Mommy friends?

I sold my double stroller and we actually had so much in common that she was here for 2 hours when she came to pick it up. She only lives 5 minutes from me and our kids were both in the same months for both pg. I know this isn't the best idea but hey you never know.

I would try a Gymboree type class. You actually interact more with the parents than you think and the kids are all around the same age.

I can't wait until DD is a little older so I can sign up again because moving to a new state with no family or close friends is hard.
