How do you use your nasal aspirator ?
Or the boogie blower as we call them here...lol. I know how they are used but how do you use it on DC.
Rylan is at the age now where he just doesn't want me to use it on him anymore. He has his first cold and is horribly congested and has a really bad runny nose. He won't even let me near him with a tissue to wipe it.
Do you try and use it only if they let you or do you hold them down and do it anyway?
There have been a few times where I literally held him down and used it on him. I feel bad but he needs it so bad. I don't know if I should be doing that though. What do you do?

We strap him down and if he moves we send electric shocks through his body. He learned fast!
Seriously, we do hold him down if he is in a mood. But our dr told us not to use the aspirator unless we actually see snot. Half the time he is alright now with it.

Why should we not use the aspirator if we dont see snot?...I usually hear her congested and use it..Am I not supposed too?

I use the bulb aspirator. I just squeeze the air out before putting it in DC's nose and then gently put it in and let the air out.
It's pretty good at sucking out the boogies and oddly enough DS does not mind it.
He actually seems to even enjoy it a bit.

Re: How do you use your nasal aspirator ?
DS HATES the bulb... but sometimes I need to use it... he's so stuffy he can't really BF in the AM he cries and tries to push it away, but onvce I'm done, he's obviously more comfortable and breathing easier.
usually his congestion comes becuase it's a super-cold night and the humidifier can't keep up with the forced-air heat

Re: How do you use your nasal aspirator ?
We use the bulb aspirator and it is a hit or a miss with DD. She either sits happily or fights with the strength of a thousand men That is when we have to really hold her down. DH and I both feel horrible to do that to her, but it is for her own good and with all we usually pull out, it makes her a little less cranky. We always use the little noses first (and the ped checked Monday to make sure that we did this as well)

I have the spray and try desperately to use that too but it's so hard.

I know, sometimes we miss because DD will turn her head away so quickly that we even have to hold her head to get the spray in there.
I think my nephew was the worst offender with this that I have ever seen. It took THREE ADULTS to suction his nose whenever he was sick. One to hold his arms/legs, one to hold his head and the third adult to administer and suction him. What an ordeal!!!

That's how Rylan is...the kid is like he man!! Last night I had my boyfriend hold his arms while I held his head and still couldn't get it. I just feel bad using to much force but maybe I should.

Re: How do you use your nasal aspirator ?
DS fights initially, but if I can get one nostril cleared, he accepts it--I think he realizes he feels better when I use it. I only use it when he's pretty congested though. I hold him in front of the bathroom mirror so he can see what's going on, and that seems to distract him a bit.
He actually fights me more with the tissues.

My ped told me not to use it until 3 years of age - that their sinus lining is way too sensitive before then.
He told me to use saline drops instead.

Re: How do you use your nasal aspirator ?
DS hates the aspirator but it's a necessary evil. We got one from BeBe Sounds which is a battery powered one which does a pretty good job. DH will hold his head straight (or else he wiggles like crazy) and we'll sing to him. It's over before he knows it and he can breathe better. I hate it but it has to be done. We only use it when his nose gets runny.

This is the one that I have and use.... I love it! I turn on the music before I use it on her, and she gets distracted well enough for me to use it.

Ugh its a wrestling match.. All i can say is Thank goodness for the battery operated nasal sucker!! this is a life saver.
I have to pin my dd down on the floor and hold her arms and legs with my legs and then hold her head with one hand and do the sucker with the other.. has to be really quick.. its a one shot deal..

OMG...this is just what I did. I put him on the floor...sat in between his legs. Put my left leg over his right arm and leg. Right leg over his left arm and leg. His head was between my calves and sucked away. He hated me for those few seconds...lol.

Re: How do you use your nasal aspirator ?
glad to see I am not alone.
Kailey actually tollerates the bulb, if I am quick, more than the electric. I got the electric one thinking it would be quicker and easier.....she likes the music, but once the motor goes on she freaks! What a waste of $20!

Re: How do you use your nasal aspirator ?
sometimes Hannah will fight me with it but if she needs it bad enough I will hold her down. I figure even though she might freak out for a minute or so at least she will feel better after you know?
I hope Rylan feels better soon!
