Re: how important is your name... in this type of setting

If it was a one time thing, no it wouldn't bother me. If it was a customer who I was going to deal with on an ongoing basis, it would bother me.

My name is Cindy, just Cindy--yet people feel compelled to call me Cynthia at times....not my name.

RE: the region thing.
Same thing w/ the name Carrie--here it is more like (Carry), yet in Chicago/Midwest it is pronounced more like Keri.

I don't get people mispronouncing my name (Nancy), but the different spellings of such a simple name is INSANE!

I've gotten:

Nancey
Nance
Nancie
Nanci
Nanecy

And here's the best one...ANCY! And it wasn't a typo because it was a hand written letter!

For my last name...people LOVE to add letters in an incredibly easy name (spelled like it sounds)!

Not important at all. My name is Patricia. Usually, Tricia or Trish. Never Pat.

BUT, people call me Pat or Patty ALL the time. Or they spell "Tricia", Trisha. It's all good. If it was someone I see everyday, I would correct them. Otherwise, not a big deal.

my legal name is Elizabeth

I have never gone by Liz

I hate being called Liz

I corrected someone on the phone the other day- on a professional call

She called me Liz- I corrected her and said Please call me Beth

she said...."Same thing"

um....no it's not- I have been called Beth since I was born- I don't know anyway who goes by both nicknames

same name & hate being called Liz!

I hate when people see my name is Elizabeth (like on email or at work) and just assume I go by Liz. No, I don't thank-you-very-much.

Funny thing though, I go by Beth and people I have known for years don't know my real name is Elizabeth. they are truly shocked when they learn my full name Chat Icon "Eliza-beth" "Eliza - BETH" Chat Icon Chat Icon

Another Elizabeth here. I HATE HATE HATE being called Liz. My mom and sister call me Liz and I've hated it since I was a little kid. When I was 9 I decided I wanted to be called Liza because I met another Elizabeth who went by Liza and I loved it so much better. I've been Liza ever since. But yes, anyone who sees my name automatically assumes I am Liz.

My mom actually named me Elizabeth to call me Beth but she said when I am came out I didn't look like a Beth at all.

Re: how important is your name... in this type of setting

I always correct someone when they say my name because it's MY name and I deserve to have it spoken to me correctly.

When on a call people will sometimes think I'm saying "Marissa" when I say "Melissa". Always make sure they say it right no matter what. I DESPISE when people shorten my name to Mel and I make sure to let them know when they start addressing me as such.

One time thing- no it doesn't bother me. Ongoing--yeah, it starts to bother me because it shows you dont pay attention. especially when you start introducing me to others by the wrong name, and i have to correct it, or they pick up on it, and it makes both of us look bad in the other person's eyes.

I absolutely hate being called Liz but I cannot seem to escape it no matter how many times I correct people. When I met a whole new group of people.... let's just say for shits and giggles.... on LIW Chat Icon I went through painstaking efforts to be called Elizabeth. A good number of people did (and do) abide by that. There were a few that still called me Liz even though I never said that was how I roll (you know who you are)!

I'm Lisa. Almost always people think I say Elisa or Alyssa. Or Elyse.

No one ever spells it wrong if they know my name is Lisa. But people are CONSTANTLY calling me LEASE. I hate it. I'm not a car! You don't LEASE me!

It was really difficult in law school when we were learning about Leases in Real Property law. That was a tough two weeks. Every other word I thought the professor was calling on me to answer the question Chat Icon

My last name gets destroyed all the time. If it's someone I'd never see or speak to again, I don't sweat it.

Re: how important is your name... in this type of setting

I get called every name under the sun. Cara, Tara, Karen, michele (don't ask). I don't bother correcting anyone because I'm dealing with sales people and they just don't care. (this is not true for every sales person on the planet, just the ones in my company)

It happens with us a lot, we just ignore it and move on. It's not important because there are only a few of us so by process of elimination we can figure out who spoke to whom, and so on and so on.

Re: how important is your name... in this type of setting

For someone I am never going to speak with again it would probably not bother me. People get the spelling of my name wrong all the time and I rarely correct them. I only recently started to correct people in some places because I was having issues where health insurance claims were not paid because of the spelling of my name.

Recently my name has been mistaken for Teri a few times and I have let it go but then the person caught themsevles and said something apologetic.

If someone knew what I prefer to be called and made their own choice not to use that name I would be very annoyed. That is not up to them!! My dad's name is Richard. He's goes by Richie and NEVER Rick, **** or even Rich. I would not even know someone is referring to my dad if they say any other name. I've met a lot of Dicks but that is another issue (but my dad's name is really Richard and he goes by Richie and I am not just using that name to make a **** joke).

Re: how important is your name... in this type of setting

My name is Melissa and I guess I say it quickly because people call me Martha. I also have a last name that sounds like a first name and people constantly call me that, even though I have a signature in my e-mails that indicates, I do indeed have a first and last name!
