How involved are you at you LO(s) school?

I remember my mom being part of the PTA board when I was in school.

I've been a class mom for the last few years, I'm a PTA officer, I chair one catalog fundraiser each year, and I help out with other assorted events here and there.

Re: How involved are you at you LO(s) school?

My involvement revolves around my kids more than the PTA, etc..

We are PTA members.. but I am not on the board or anything close. We volunteer for field trips and go to field day and help out with special events but I am NOT one of those fabulous super mom who always seem to be able to make time for everything. I kind of suck at that actually! I am on the board of the music scholarship group though and I’ll be helping to coordinate several events for that next year.. that counts, right? LOL

BUT .. I am in contact with my kids’ teachers a lot. I’m always on Parent Portal for Robbie, I communicate via phone, e-mail and notes with their teachers to keep track of how they are doing, what is going on, etc.. I am the first one to call and advocate for my kid every single time. I have zero hesitation when it comes to asking questions, getting answers and doing whatever needs to be done to make sure my kids are getting the most out of their experience.

I vote on the school budget every year and I go to any meetings relevant to the budget so I understand what I am voting on.

Same here… I go to all of the PTA meetings I can, and I'm the PTA rep in our class (a new figure at our school, like a PTA liaison on each class), I volunteer at lunch (not as often now) and on field trips. This year I have been helping the teacher in class making copies, laminating stuff, etc. My schedule is flexible and I like to help while I can, although DS ignores me when he sees me at school Chat Icon

I do as much as I can...first and foremost I am in constant contact with all of DD's teachers and therapists. I attend all class parties and offer assistance to the teacher as needed. I am part of the PTA board and attend all (or most) of the meetings. I have a good working relationship with school Admin and Board members and I am also the president of the districts SEPTA. With regards to SEPTA, I run all the general meetings, any fundraisers and host a monthly parent networking meeting. I'm a busy girl lol but totally worth it!

Re: How involved are you at you LO(s) school?

I help when I can but like pp said more involved with my child then the school. We're on the PTA, can't say I've attended all the meetings Chat Icon Chaperoned on the field trip, read to her class several times and participated in any class parties and field day. Now that I found out we are most likely being rezoned out of DD's school due to overcrowding I have not participated in any planning for the future events at this school

DS goes to private school. They encourage parent involvement. I am there once a week to help as a recess aide. I am part of the PA (parents association - which is basically fundraising). And I am one of the class parents.

I love being involved with the school community.

How involved are you at you LO(s) school?

Class mom, I volunteer in class on Wednesdays. A different day during the week I help in the office or library.
I also added a tues or thurs in the class...I am able to bring my 3 yr old on those mornings, so she has the best 4 hours of being with the kids.
I go on all field trips, I bring my 3 yr old. I am helping with EOG testing in June.
Basically, I can't keep myself out of there.

I am in the PTO, but never had a meeting. School is very transient .. they are in need of a strong pto

Unfortunately - not too involved at all. I have a 2 yr old and no day time babysitting so not much I can be involved with. I attend every event I can bring a sibling along to - like plant and books sales but can't volunteer to help run them like I wish I could.. I do my best to beg someone to watch her so I can attend some in class events so my child will have a parent there and try to serve lunch at least 1-2 times a year but that's all for now....when my 2 yr old is in school full time I can do more....but that is a long time away and feel so bad how much I am missing out on esp since I am a SAHM. : (

Re: How involved are you at you LO(s) school?

Fairly involved-I'm a class mom and in the PTO, I do a weekly intervention with kids who are behind in my DDs class, I volunteer monthly to cover lunches for my DD's teachers, I help with any of the activities for her grade. DH or I go on all field trips.

THe PTO is looking for someone to fill and officer spot. I thought about it but I don't think I can swing it-I want to be a Girl Scout leader this year and don't think I can swing both.

I like doing things that put me in the classroom, getting to know her teacher and her classmates. I really want to know the kids/families that my kids are going to school with. To that extent we've had playdates at our house with 7 or 8 classmates at a timeChat Icon

Fairly involved. I guess you could say I'm the unofficial corresponding secretary for the Mother's Club. I was the co-chair of the Halloween party. I've also volunteered at almost all of the events they've held--some more than others since I have a 2yr old at home.

Re: How involved are you at you LO(s) school?

Not very.

PTA member, never attend meetings.

I go to school when I'm invited for special events. (Try to never miss any)

I usually attend PTA sponsored after school events.

Never, ever chaperone field trips.

I work full time so this is the best I can do, although given the time, I probably wouldn't do much more.

Now if you asked me how involved I am in my children's education, that would be a completely different story.

As a FTWM, I find it hard to even make it to the little activities at school........ let alone the PTA, etc.

Sometimes I feel like they forget people work...and it annoys me.

so.......not very involved at all.

Nah-Chris thinks I am a dummy. They are big because I hate to leave kids out. Even better-I always always tell the parents they are welcome to join me for coffee while the kids play. They always decline and drop off their kids.

That is half the reason I do the playdates at my house-I don't want to drop my DD off anywhere and that seems to be the expectation at this age.

Re: How involved are you at you LO(s) school?

I thought I would be a lot more involved than I am. I am a SAHM and only have DS who is in kindergarten. I am not on the PTA or go to meetings but I volunteer for the "special days" like the 100 day celebration, Fun Day, a holiday craft day. I will be returning to work next year so I wont be any more involved as time goes on.

Re: How involved are you at you LO(s) school?

This is our first full year in a new district in Chicago 'burbs and I found it so hard to keep up with all the activities and events. I really felt bad when we had to tell the kids that we could not go to something because I had to travel for work or we wouldn't get back to 'burbs from the city in time for an event. My commute into the city was really taking a toll on me, so I started looking and was really lucky to find a job 6 miles from home that will allow me to participate more in the classroom and the school events.

We wanted to be more involved this year at the school level, but so many of the planning and group meetings happen during the work day. We supported the PTA by being member and participating in most activities that happen in evenings or weekends. I wanted to go to PTA meetings but they were at 9:15am, which doesn't really work for a FTWP. I wish they did every other meeting in the evening or during a lunch hour because then I'd be able to go.

Like someone else said, DH and I are very involved with our boys education, specifically by communicating with the teachers regularly. If the class needs supplies we try to provide them. Both of us will take one vacation day to go on at least one field trip for each kid a school year.

Ah yes...Good Ole' Lifamilies will do that for you! :)

Being a FTWM...I will try to be as involved as I can, but reality is I am exhausted daily, and will be lucky to get through dinner and homework. ;)

Re: How involved are you at you LO(s) school?

I'm a SAHM to 3: 1st grade, pre-k and 2s nursery school.

I'm a member of the PTA, but don't attend meetings being that I'm home with my LOs and my husband travels often.

I donate money and whatever else they may need when asked for contributions. If I'm available or can get someone to watch my LO(s), then I participate. I try and attend field trips when I can, but being a class mom isn't really an option for me at this point. (Plus I hate how cliquey some of the moms can get...but that's a whole different thread. Chat Icon )

The moms that I know who are very involved tend to have only 1 or 2 children or their youngest is in school full day. It will be several years before I'm at that point. Chat Icon
