And if you didn't indulge, keep scrolling! LOL

I think I'm going to go hard core with a sugar detox. Wish me luck!

I wasn’t horrible over the holidays but over the last year as a whole I’ve been bad.

I’m going to re-start weight watchers and set up a fitness schedule - we got a Peleton over the summer and the past couple of weeks I’ve been using it more religiously so I’m hoping to stick with it better than I have in the past.

Your liver detoxes for you. Just go back to your normal eating and you’ll be fine. No need for a detox. They are marketing scams.

This. If your liver doesn't detox you will be in the hospital or dead/ Eat right, watch the portions drink lots of water, all will be good. I overindulged too, so bloated it's not even funny. But I am going back to my healthy eating habits and by next week I will be feeling a lot better.

No such thing as a detox unless you are detoxing from narcotics
Just drink a ton of water and start eating clean again.

Counting points, eating serving sizes. Cutting down on carbs and sugars and exercising.

I didn't mean like an ACTUAL detox...I meant like how are you getting back on track.

I’m trying for a sober January. Too many calories and being home has created unhealthy habits of a seltzer or glass of wine too frequently.

Right now I’m focusing on exercising and increasing my daily steps. I’m also avoiding desserts and “junk food”.

I know to really lose pounds I will need to get more serious about my diet but right now I just want to cut out the things I know are really contributing to recent weight gain as a start.

That’s indeed how I took ur question.

I’m going back to Keto, intermittent fasting, lots of water, and I’m gonna try to set a daily goal for excercising, nothing too intense but something that helps me start my day energized enough without depending on coffee too much.

Re: How is everyone planning on detoxing from the holiday indulgence?

I am doing a Dry January. I do it every year to reset. It works for the whole year for me, but by November and December (my bday and Xmas) it all goes to shit.

It definitely helped me when the pandemic started last year. Normally I would have just had lots of wine, but I didn’t.

Dry January was hard last year, but this year it’s even easier because I know the benefits I will gain throughout the year.

As for food, well, I’ve always been a healthy eater because it’s what I like. My biggest problem recently is that I skip meals or a day of food, especially if I am stressed. So I am making it a point to make sure I at least cook and eat one biggish meal a day. This will be easier because I won’t have people breathing down my neck asking me what I ate and if I am eating.

Re: How is everyone planning on detoxing from the holiday indulgence?

I think I might be the only woman on the planet who doesn't think about diet and exercise. I was telling my Dh the other day I feel like something is wrong with me.
I eat what I like. I dread exercise more than any other task on the planet so I just stopped kidding myself and forcing myself to do something that made my miserable and I'm so much happier now.
I know I'm in the minority and it does make me feel like something is missing in my DNA because every one I know is so conscious of everything they eat and do but it just seems like a never ending battle

If you are happy with your body and your clothes always fit - then why would you ?

When I was naturally thin (for a very small part of my life due to an overactive thyroid) it was a chips, fast food and soda party all the time. I didn’t give a rats ass what I was eating and ate all the delicious things I wanted to. Then I had my thyroid “fixed”. Now if I Indulge more than once per week, I put on weight. My second chin becomes a permanent fixture and my jeans feel like they are trying to murder me.

Now ... at 43 even if My metabolism allowed me to eat like crap, I probably would start trying to make better choice sometimes. Mainly for the sake of my organs and wrinkles. So my meal choices are about 98% weight and cholesterol and 2% organs and wrinkles

To answer the OP: my reset started the beginning of dec. I began intermittent fasting so that the holidays wouldn’t be the cause of another 5 lbs gained. So, I wound up losing 3 and now that the holidays are over, I’m eating healthier choices during my feeding window. My usual food chicken, veggies, brown rice, salads, etc. and as always - a gallon of water a day.

LOL at the organs and wrinkles!
See that's the thing, putting weight and vanity aside, for health reasons alone I know I should care.
But it's just hard to care because I love to eat and I hate to exercise. And I've never been one to have an ounce of discipline or consistency. I was born lazy and that is so hard to break away from, its a curse.
I took a walk the other morning and it was pure torture. I was hating it the whole time and couldn't wait to go home.
I think something is seriously wrong with me like I need a therapist. Who hates taking a walk?

I'm getting back into drinking 72 ounces of water per day. That's how much I had been drinking each day, but skipped more days than I'd like in the past few weeks.

Re: How is everyone planning on detoxing from the holiday indulgence?

I put on about 20 lbs from September to December due to stress eating. My Dad's Alzheimer's was getting worse and then he passed. I was drowning my stress and grief in food and it was not healthy. I felt tired and sluggish all the time.

I have no shame admitting that I am vain. I care very much about my weight and body appearance. The added weight doesn't help my mental health at all. My clothes do not fit and I feel like garbage.

To get back on track, I am upping my water intake, significantly decreasing the amount of sugar I eat/drink, and committing to moving my body at least 5 days a week. I also do a modified intermittent fasting. I don't eat past 6 and I don't eat carbs past 11. Eventually I will eat a more balanced diet, but right now I need to distance myself from the sugar/crap food addiction.

I think if anyone tells you they are not vain they are lying.
I think everyone is vain to a certain extent.
I had this conversation with my DH because he changed his whole lifestyle and diet. In the process he lost 100 lbs but he is now obsessed with what he puts in his body, what is inflammatory, how bad processed foods are, eating grass fed meat, organic, etc.
He talks all the time about what the bad food does to you from a health stand point. Fine, great.
But I said to him- if you were able to wave a magic wand and eat whatever you wanted without putting weight back on, would you eat all that bad stuff again, knowing it's bad for your health even if it wouldn't affect your weight?
And he said he would. Maybe not all the time, but he would.
So I truly believe that the first motivator in eating well and exercising is vanity. The health benefits are a bonus.

But are you naturally thin? I think that makes a big difference in our thoughts regarding diet/exercise.

My sister eats like garbage but is a size 4/6, and always has been. Gains almost no weight during pregnancy and loses whatever she did gain immediately. Makes me crazy Chat Icon

Kind of yes. I mean I used to be thinner back in my 20's but I'm not complaining because I'm fine now and I'm fine with how I look, yes.
But the thing is, even with weight gain, I just have zero will power and I always say if not for my metabolism I'd be 300 lbs because I just can't ever be disciplined with anything.
Not just what I eat. Just everything. Being organized, cleaning, maintaining a routine.
Thank God I never smoked or tried any drugs because I'd be in trouble trying to quit anything.
It's a huge flaw of mine.

I was baaaaaaaad over the holidays. I did not hesitate to gorge on treats!

I started a DietBet on January 2nd so I'm drinking more water, walking more, and watching what I eat.

i did allow a few extra treats Chat Icon

since i have surgery coming up, i'm working to kick things into high gear for the next few weeks!!

i'll be upping my IF from 18:6 to 20:4. maybe even 23:1. i KNOW it's short-term for the sake of the skin removal surgery. i know the 23:1 is not something i can maintain more than a couple of weeks.

i might even give that crazy beyonce starvation diet from back when many of us were trying to get into tiny wedding dresses lol

Nothing special. Going back to my "normal" eating habits.

I did already start to wean myself off a little. I've been eating healthier the last few days, threw out some junk, and got back into exercising.

I can't go cold turkey like that. It's more palatable when it's not as shocking.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My dad passed in August from cancer and it definitely affected the way I took care of myself. I didn't feel like cooking so we ordered out a lot so my weight and wallet both took a hit. Good luck to you. Chat Icon

I'm definitely trying to detox this year. I'm really trying to cut back on desserts/snacking/sugar... and to make sure I exercise more often without skipping. Also, drinking a lot of water!!
