Re: How is everyone voting this year?
So I always read about and see on TV these huge lines to vote and hours wait times . I must live in an area with low voter turn out because I have never had to wait on a line to vote in any presidential election.

Lines are hours long right now all over LI and NYC. I have a friend that got in line at 915 for a 10 open and she is still waiting. This is happening all over now.

I was just stating how it's been in years past. I really can't wait 8 hours on a line so hopefully my polling place is still the same as it was in years past. Not sure what has changed. My polling place is at my elementary school and only includes voters in a small area...my sister lives down the block and is zoned to vote at another spot. So with so few people zoned to vote at that school and everyone rushing to vote early or doing mail in this year, i can't see it being any busier than last election. Unless 1000s more have moved into my small area this year and are zoned to vote there.
ETA...friends were on line 3 hours today at the town hall. I wonder if early voting is equaling the long lines because they have limited spots to vote early as opposed to when you go vote on the 3rd you go to your own designated polling place which is usually for a small part of your town. Today everyone in our town is lining up at town hall. On the 3rd it will be spread out to all the normal polling places.

I think you are probably correct. The early voting has only 20? Or so locations for all of Nassau county. I think a lot of people felt like me and wanted to vote today ASAP. People are engaged this year on both sides.
It’s not the most strategic as I do think lines will be less later this week and even on Nov3rd but it made me feel so good so it was worth it to me. My hubby will go one day this week. I will report back.
I waited 1.5 hours today, arriving 20 mins after polls opened and line already 4+ blocks long.

I’ve changed my mind based on the long waits today and will be voting on Election Day too. Now that my kids will be at school I will be up and moving early and my polling place (and the two before it) have never had lines as they service a smaller area, as opposed to town hall which services about 15 separate polling places. My normal polling place is walkable and services a small area of town, many of which did absentee ballots, waited forever to vote today or don’t vote first thing in the morning.

I have honestly never waited on line to vote on election day. I’m hoping since everyone seems to be voting early, there will be even less people at the polls on Nov 3rd!

Neither have I. Even with the crazy lines when Obama was running. It’s always been in and out.

This was my thoughts exactly. Why the rush to vote early if the lines are 3 and 4 hours long due to more people congregating at one polling place when on election day there will be a lot more polling places serving smaller areas.

Re: How is everyone voting this year?
I heard lines were crazy yesterday because it was the first day of voting. Also anyone in Suffolk can go to any Suffolk county early voting spot and same With Nassau county. While the day of election you must got to your designated voting place.
However with that said I saw comment from a poll worker that said there are an extremely high number of register voters this year. Not as many people will be allowed in due to social distancing guidelines so to expect longer waits.
Also apparently if someone refuses to wear a mask they have to let them vote anyway but then follow some kinda of procedure that could take hours which means the lines will be held up.
Not sure how true any of that is but it has now made me torn on going the day if versus trying to go early!
I’ll be honest I don’t think I would be willing to wait hours to vote!

How is everyone voting this year?
DH & I had to vote early today. He went earlier in the day and by the afternoon my wait was much shorter. He is working late on Election Day, and the kids will be home with me all day. I’d prefer not to drag them out with me (esp if weather is bad) and I’m afraid of someone getting sick or someone needing to quarantine and then we’re stuck at home. I know the chances are pretty slim but I was not letting anything get in the way of my voting!

If someone comes without a mask the will be let in but they will be the only one in and another person cannot be let in until things are wiped down after the person leaves the polling room. It is very much true. I am a poll worker and we went through scenarios about this.

Re: How is everyone voting this year?
So watching the news this morning and they are showing lines to early vote on the Upper East Side. No distancing at all. 100s of people one on top of the next. No separation at all. Masks on yes but wow. Talk about a crowded gathering! Yikes

Re: How is everyone voting this year?
I voted already by mail. My polling place is in Queens, I just never updated when I moved to LI so I didn't want to trek out there.
ETA: I've always had to wait on a short line at my polling place in Queens. Maybe 15 minutes? If even that.

Re: How is everyone voting this year?
We just voted early. Got on line at 11:48 and we were done at 12:22. Super easy, organize, and quick. I found it was much better than going to my actual polling place, honestly. I think I will always vote like this now.

Re: How is everyone voting this year?
On normal elections days, I never wait more than 10 minutes. I basically walk in and vote. I tried 3 days in a row to do early voting and the lines are absolutely insane. Hours of waiting. I still haven't voted because of it. I don't really understand.

That's because for early voting there are far less polling places servicing a lot more people. On election day you can go to your normal polling spot which, by me at least, serves a very small area of my town.
