Re: How long are you taking off from work when baby comes? (poll)
Well, right now I am freelancing, so I really have a flexible schedule.
I plan to take a year off after having the baby-- or maybe less, depending on how I feel. I may be dying to get back into the work force. I also may do some freelance work from home before the year is up, we'll have to see how it goes.
Also, next year-- we plan to move back to LI to be closer to our parents, and we'll probably be ready for a house by then. I plan to look for a job out there-- so, we'll need to move before I can think about getting back to work. I REFUSE to work in Manhattan again in my industry- especialy with a child and a commute.

I get 6months maternity leave fully paid and 2 weeks before birth....
this is awesome---where do u work?
I work for mutual fund company (asset management) which is based out of CA...in CA they have different maternity leave laws which our NY office must follow.....it also depends on the length of employment and position.....

Re: How long are you taking off from work when baby comes? (poll)
Im due 8 weeks before the end of the school year, so I am doing the 6 weeks paid and possibly going back for 2 weeks... since its the easiest two weeks of finals.... just so I dont lose any pay.. haha....but if I have a c-section, I get 8 weeks... I am secretly hoping this thing is 2 weeks late or worse case, a c-section, so I dont have to go back at all... we shall see...

I'm a teacher. So I will deliver the begining of June and take sick days (I have like 12 weeks) for that month. And then take the summer and then one -two months at the start of they year.
i'm planning on doing something similar. i'm due the beginning of june, so i'll just stay out all summer until next september.
now if all goes to plan i won't go back at all - i want another job.

Re: How long are you taking off from work when baby comes? (poll)
I am taking 12 weeks...then returning to my teaching position for the remainder of the year- should be about 5 weeks (will have mom, MIL and DH home with baby all varying weeks)
Then I am home for the summer... when I return for the new school year, that is when we will begin daycare

Re: How long are you taking off from work when baby comes? (poll)
I get 2 weeks prior to my due date, 2 weeks after, then 6 weeks for vaginal birth or 8 weeks for c/s. I am planning on taking an extended maternity leave (unpaid) of 6 months. However, there is a possiblity I will not be going back, but as of right now I am.

Re: How long are you taking off from work when baby comes? (poll)
IF I go back to work, I'll go back after 14 or 15 weeks. It's not certain I'll go back after this baby is born. After DS, I went back after 13 wks.

luckily 4 me I will become a SAHM...with having twins it just doesn't make financial sense to work..I'd be working to pay for daycare...plus I'm spoiled lol and have a great man by my side!

Re: How long are you taking off from work when baby comes? (poll)
not pg yet (keep the faith) but my firm just increased the maternity leave and paternity leave.
I will get 16 weeks paid. I plan on parlaying that into whatever vacation I have left. I will get 4 weeks/per starting in January. Depending on $$ I may take a few more months but after paying for IVF I don't know.

Re: How long are you taking off from work when baby comes? (poll)
I am allowed 12 weeks---6 weeks paid & 6 weeks unpaid (even if I have days to cover it; they don't consider me sick after the first 6 weeks). Luckily, I am due in April so my leave should take me until school is out and I am a teacher so I'll have the summer off. It should be 5 months by luck.

Re: How long are you taking off from work when baby comes? (poll)
I am not sure, but told my boss 6 weeks ...that's if mom could help out for the next 6 weeks. I don't want to put a 6 week old in daycare.
I also don't get paid at all for my time off.

Wow! where do you work? That's awesome! I get nothing. I don't even think my firm withheld anything from my checks for short term disability
