How long did it take to get your baby's Social Security number?
Hi all!
We filled out the paperwork in the hospital for our daughter's birth certificate and Social Security #.
The birth certificate came within a few days.
We are still waiting on the SS # and it's been 2 weeks.
Is that the norm?
The only reason we are anxious is because we need the # to add her to our health insurance etc.
We also want to open a bank acct for her since people have been giving us checks in her name as well.
Does anyone recall how long it took?

Hmm... I honestly don't remember, but I believe we were able to add Loey without his SS# - we just needed to fax in information we got from the hospital I believe...
We had to add him within 30 days....

It took about 2 weeks to get his SS card.
Don't worry about insurance..i think they have him covered under you for the first 30 days. I think that's how my insurance worked.

Ours came 2 1/2 months later - the person at the hospital forgot to file the paperwork and blamed it on SS!
In the meantime - for health ins, we were able to send a copy of his footprint over to get him added to DH's plan.

I had DS in NJ and I had to go and get the birth certificate too from the local town hall.

i thought they said it would be mailed.. but i better check into it!

it took a couple of weeks 2or 3... but don't worry about the insurance- he is covered for the first 30 days i believe and after that the bills can be resubmitted after he is officially added. additionally, in regards to the bank account, just cash the checks and transfer the funds to his account when you open it.

Thanks Ladies!
I figured as much- I mean we have her birth certificate- and she is going under my husband's plan- so it's not like they NEED her social security number to get her on the plan.
