How long did it take your LO to go from a few unassisted steps to actual walking?
DS has been taking a few steps here and there for about a month now. His record is about 10 steps at once. I think he can totally do it on his own - in fact, he'll walk forever holding on to just one of my hands - but I think it's still easier for him to get around crawling. He hasn't decided that he wants to walk yet, KWIM?
I keep hearing parents saying their LO took a few steps and then was off in a matter of a week or so. Anyone else have a slow starter?

With both for us it was a couple of days. He'll get it though.

WE'RE IN THE SAME BOAT!
Logan has been taking unassisted steps since 8.5 months. his record is 12 too, but we usually get 6-8. i don't consider it "walking" until the child walks full time/no longer crawls, so he's definitely not walking. He's a crawling speed demon though!
Just from watching him, i feel like his major problem is that he tries to go too fast. he leans forward and tries to run, but tangles himself up in his own feet and falls.
He's getting braver than he used to be, it wouldn't surprise me if he starts walking full time in the next month or so.
He crawled early, so I really thought he'd walk early. GUESS NOT!

This makes me feel much better - I thought Logan was running all over the place, LOL! I think it's the same with Tristan - we stand a little away from him and everyone has these huge stupid smiles on their faces while he takes the first few steps that he get so excited he starts to go too fast and ends up falling down!
The thing that's making him walk more often and more confidently, belive it or not, is trying to kick a ball I think he'll probably get it soon. Let's see what two weeks with the constant stimulation of my very loud, very large family will do for him!

One day for mine but that's because he started taking his first few steps at nearly 16 months.
Also, you may be able to encourage him to walk more by taking him outside where he can't crawl or exposing him to walking toddlers so he feels more motivated.
Mine took his his first few steps at a park and the next day refused to sit in his stroller! He wanted to walk on the sidewalk with us. If you let him walk make sure he has thick long pants on 'cus he will scrape his knees in shorts! Learned that the hard way.

Re: How long did it take your LO to go from a few unassisted steps to actual walking?
DD#1 went from taking 2-3 steps without holding onto anything to walking all over independently a span of 2 weeks. She refused to hold our hands when she walked - she was walking all over independently at 10.5 months - BUT wouldn't hold our hand to walk until she was over 18 months.
DD#2 is VERY cautious - totally different from her sister. She was taking 2-3 steps around 10.5 months - but even when we went to WDW (she turned 1 the last day of the trip) - she would only walk holding my hand. - But if she got REALLY excited to see a character she would let go and walk over - we even went to the playhouse disney show - she got SO excited there - that she took off and practically ran for the stage - she went more than 10 feet. After that IF I distracted her enough she would walk without holding anything - but otherwise she would only push her sister's baby stroller or hold my hand. Then around 12.5 -13 months - she just decided to run around our house - she would walk ALL over and even run around the house - but the minute we walk outside the house she would ONLY walk holding my hand. Then slowly - she got more confident walking outside (1st on grass) then one day around 13-13.5 months she just took off. She is still very cautious and when we go to the pool she will run around and walk around on her own - but in the baby pool she will only hold my hand, or still likes to hold our hand some days more than others.
I look at it this way - if they are taking individual steps they are capable - but it might be more a mental/confidence issue - and that will come in time.
