How long does an indoor cat typically live?
Bella just turned 12 and I noticed something the other day. She usually runs away whenever DD (who is 2) tries to pet her or do anything to her.
The other day Bella was laying on the bed and DD decided she wanted to dress her. She started laying lightweight clothing on her (nothing heavy, it was DD's clothes) Bella stayed there and didnt move, which is highly unusual. DH made a comment like "do you think she is getting old and just didnt feel like moving?"
Oh and here is the pic. You can see how thrilled Bella is Image Attachment(s):

The oldest cat I ever had was about 17. She could be getting too lazy to walk away or finally get used to DD. Cute pic!

Re: How long does an indoor cat typically live?
My cousin's cat was nearly 20 when he died. As with any animal, it really depends. I think the average lifespan of an indoor only cat is 12 - 15 years, but I have known many who lived into their late teens.
Your kitty could definitely be mellowing with age, but that isn't always a "bad" sign.

OMG that pic is so funny!
My cat was 17 when she passed away. She definitely mellowed out later in life. Like the PP said, it doesn't always mean something bad

lmaoo
maybe bella was just like, eh whatever, its halloween
but indoor cats be around until they are 17 to 18 years old.. so don't worry.. my three year old fur boy at times acts like that sometimes when he doesn't want to be bothered yet he knows momma is gonna play regardless

Re: How long does an indoor cat typically live?
My Mom had 3 cats at one point - they all lived to 18, 19 and 21.
I had a cat that lived to 17, and she would've lived longer had she not been poisoned by that contaminated cat food a few years ago . I currently have a cat that is 13.
Also though, I had another cat that only lived to 5, she ended up having liver cancer. You never know.
**EDIT - By the way - my current cat always has that look on her face because she is miserable iwth the dogs she lives with.

Re: How long does an indoor cat typically live?
My parents just had to put our family cat to sleep a few weeks ago. It was 20...longest living cat I've ever heard of
