How long until they prescribe antibiotics?
I have had a cold, cough, stuffy head and (ahem) phlegm issue for the past week.
I went to the Dr early last week (day 2 of my illness) because I was having trouble breathing and I thought I had bronchitis.
The Dr (not my normal physician) told me that I am "young, healthy and that I should be able to fight this on my own" without antibiotics. He told me to get cough medicine with expectorin.
Here I am a week later, and I still don't feel good. It's not AS bad as it was, but I still have most of the original symptoms (cough, stuffy nose, phlegm, headache, etc). Should I go back and demand a prescription? I am nervous because I am going away this weekend and don't want to feel sick on the plane! I don't want to go & waste my time if he is just going to tell me the same thing!!!!!!
TIA!!!!!!!!!

It depends. Antibiotics are often over prescriped- which leads to more harm than good. If your Dr felt what you had was viral- and not bacterial- that could explain why he didn't want to give you an antibiotic.
Either way- since you are still not feeling well- I would go back- just to see what's up.

Yup - he said he thought it was viral.

Yup - he said he thought it was viral.
Then he did the right thing by not prescibing you antibiotics, good for him!! If you do have a viral infection, the only thing that will help is rest, unfortunately. Antibiotics only kill bacteria, they will do nothing for viruses. If you are still not feeling well you should go back to the dr. though. He can run tests to confirm what kind of infection you have. Feel better!
