I would never wait a month or more for a car. And for a color combination...no freaking way.

I agree. I would use this opportunity to negotiate a great deal since I'd be 'settling' Chat Icon

As long as it took.

I'm not spending that amount of money and settling. No way.

Totally.

I'm just curious, wouldn't you be disappointed to spend close to $40k on a car that wasn't what you really wanted? That's my main concern. I don't want to be mad at myself a couple months from now for settling.

I think you answer is here. Wait. Don't settle it's not like you are buying a pair of Payless shoes. Chat Icon

If you are leasing I could see passing it up but if you are buying, make sure it's what you want.

I think the main problem in not being able to find the combination you want is that most leases on those years aren't up yet. So, if its taht you want a 1-2 year old car, the inventory will be much more limited than if you want a 3 year old car. If you want those specific years and can wait until the end of this year, you might have better luck

I think your desires are a little to specific for a used car...

Re: How long would you wait it out

I don't think I would limit myself to the exact color combination for a used car BUT, I also wouldn't settle for something I didn't love with that price tag. I bought my Murano last year brand new for over 30k and settled for a color they had in stock because they gave me a little more off. I will not lie, I still look at it and regret settling for a color I didn't love. I know I am going to have it for a long time and for that kind of money, I wish I loved it more.

Re: How long would you wait it out

for a used car I would be more concerned about miles and price then color

for a new car- I would get what I want- but luckily the dealer I go to always seems to have the exact truck I want

I am about to lease a BMW- I care that it's white and has all the options I want- I don't care about the interior color

I can ask my hubby to check his inventory. I'll let you know. Not sure what dealers you are working with?

I had a silver Enclave with ebony (black) interior. I loved it. It was an '09. I upgraded last year to the '13 and was so torn on color. It really is a hard decision. DH wanted me to get black. I liked white, but was afraid of the dirt factor. I ended up getting the cyber gray color and I LOVE it. I got the black leather interior again.

You do know the exterior changed for the '13 model year? I actually like the look better.

Good Luck!

Here's my '09 Silver vs. my '13 gray....

And my gray vs. the marine blue.

I want what I want, and I don't settle. Call me a snob, or picky, or a brat.. I don't apologize for it.
When I bought my last car I wanted a very specific color combination, and very specific options. If I told you how far I drove to find/pick up this car you would think I was insane. Luckily DH is the same way as I am ( only about cars though!) and was game for the road trip/adventure.

Life is short. I want what makes me happy. I spend a lot of time in my car and spend a lot of money on my cars. I want to be 100% happy with it.

I waited 3 yrs. for my baby blue Nissan Leaf so
you know what I would say...

If you're to keep it for that long, then don't settle. The right color combo car will show up and in the meantime, you still have the old car.

I just leased a new car and got exactly what I wanted at a price I wanted. I spent two months looking and emailing. It was interesting. The dealer was surprised that I negotiated so hard, considering I am a woman. So were other dealers I worked with. We ladies clearly need to learn to be better negotiators. I learned a lot about negotiating on the forums at Edmunds.com which seem to be inhabited mostly by men.

I looked in the tristate area and beyond. I found a fabulous price on a dealer demo in Georgia last week (a 2014, with $15,000 off the price) but decided against it because it didn't have the sound system I wanted. It had everything else though and was a stupendous price for a new car of its type. Sometimes it's worth it to look far away. Shipping the Ga. car to LI would have been around $600.

How long would you wait it out

I would don't think I would wait that long for a used car, because even if you find the exact look you want the mileage may be high. For a new car, I definitely wouldn't settle at all. I have an Infiniti FX now and it was my dream car. I literally love my car. A few years back I talked myself out of it and bought another and I hated every second I was driving it. I would never do that again.

How long would you wait it out

I just gave up my ideal color for all the bells and whistles I wanted. I look at it like this, when you buy a house, you buy it for what is inside, not for the color. I love my choice :)

Certain things I bend on. But I agree. For that amount of money and because you will have it a long time .. I wouldn't settle.

If you kept cars for one a few years, i would say move on

I agree. I waited 6 months and that was for a new car. No way am I dropping that kind of money and not loving my car Chat Icon
It's the second most expensive thing I'll ever own other than a house! I wouldn't buy a house either that I didn't love. This is just me though. I really hope you find what you want!

How long would you wait it out

If it's what you really want, then I would wait. But as others have said because of the years you are looking for there is going to be limited inventory. You might have better luck with a 2012 at the end of this year if lessees turn in early. Good luck!

Re: How long would you wait it out

Hmmmm if that specific car is out there why can't a dealer get it for you? When I leased one if my cars the dealer I was working with here negotiated with a dealer in NJ who had it and the guy here went and got it and brought it to his lot! Maybe this isn't normal practice though lol
Good luck!

Re: How long would you wait it out

I am not that picky when it comes to cars so I would have settled for something else. But a car is a car to me.

On another note - I have an Enclave and while it suites my needs - I don't think it is a super well made car! I got it new in 2012 (right before the birth of my 3rd child - needed a bigger car) and feel like since I have lots of little problems. Nothing super major but I jest feel like little things pop up. My biggest issues involve the integration of the dvd player/sound system. We had the DVD player added since we couldn't find one in the color car we wanted and had to change inside audio/gps system/etc because of that for it to work.... it's been nothing but problematic since. Makes weird noises, doesn't turn on all the time...etc.

On another note - I do have the lighter interior and it doesn't look too bad at all. I have 3 kids (2 sports aged boys) and my car is the everyday car. Take them and friends to and from soccer, baseball, etc. with dirty cleats and still not looking bad and I rarely clean my car too! Not sure if that would make you reconsider the lighter interior. The floor is getting bad but the seats and such wipe clean easily and doesn't look dingy yet!

She's looking for pre-owned. And a year or two old, which will be very hard to find, especially with low mileage and color considerations.

I am REALLY into cars, so I would wait as long as it took. Some people aren’t really into their cars, so they don’t care. It’s just the type of person you are. I ordered my car November 20, 2013 and it’s not in until May, 2014. I am counting the days Chat Icon
