How many ounces of BM should a 3 week old consume?
I pumped for the 1st time today so DS can have a bottle every once in a while. How do I know how many ounces to give him and when i should start giving him more?

I found my kids seemed content with 2 oz the 1st month and it went up about a half oz every month until it plateaued at 5.5 oz and it never went up from there the whole year I breastfed

How many ounces of BM should a 3 week old consume?
I would start with 2.... If ds takes that down easily, move up to 2.5, etc. it's all trial and error... Its still sometimes a guessing game with my 5 month old.

at the begining, when I started pumping dd had 2oz, at one week was at 2 1/2. She now gets a little more than that at 2 weeks..... and 3oz at the night feeding.

At that age he took 2 ounces, if he got a bottle of bm.

DD is 2 weeks. She will take anywhere from 1 oz to 4 oz. But it depends on how long she's gone inbetween feedings. We usually offer 2 or 3 ozs at a feeding and then watch her cues. If she still looks hungry we burp and change her while the next oz or 2 is warming up.

At two months my son doesn't take more than 3 oz. at once...and that's a lot. I'd say for a 3 week old I'd start with 1.5 oz. and then give more if needed so that you don't waste your milk.

My DD is a beast, but would take somewhere between 2 and 4 oz at that age. Now, at 6 weeks, she takes 4-5oz at "meal times" and 2 oz "snacks".

I believe the general rule is that newborns drink about 25 oz in a day (24 hrs), so divide 25 by the number of feedings your baby usually has in a day and you'll get the # of ounces.
(most newborns eat 8-12x/day, so you're looking at 2-3 oz. per feeding)
