How many ounces was your 9 week old drinking per day and what did they weigh?

DS had his 2 month appointment today. We talked about the fact that he drinks 5, 7 ounce bottles per day for a total of 35 ounces perday. She told me that this was too much for a 9 week old. Now my son weighs 14lbs and he finishes each bottle to the end. In my eyes, he is still hungry and could likely eat 8 ozs. I will use my own judgement and continue to feed my son as I see fit. I was just wondering how much other babies were eating at 9 weeks. TIA

Caden was 14lbs 7oz at his 2 month check up. (he was 9 weeks too)...24 inches long....eating 5/ 8oz bottles per day....

Now if Im not mistaken...we use the same ped. She had no problem with what he was eating at all....Although she did comment that Caden had the biggest growth jump she had ever seen. 4 inches in 2 months and over 7lbs.

I always thought 40oz was the max that they should have a day?

DS only had about 4oz at a feeding at that age, but he never ate more than 6oz a feeding.

Seriously? She actually said that if i cannot absolutely decrease the amount of formula that she guesses "its okay".

Yes the same ones! Very weird. She also stated not to start cereal until 4 months.

I think he was taking about 5 6oz bottles a day. Are you giving him powder or RTF? I found DS would never get satisfied with the powder. At 6 weeks he was taking over 40oz Now that he is on the RTF he only takes about 32oz a day.

Wow now I wonder if we use the same pedi too?. Last week I called the pedi's office with a question and I was told that 5 6oz bottles per day is way too much for a 9 week old too. But honestly I think she wants more b/c she is nearly sucking the nipple off the bottle too.

my ds was eating 4 oz every 2.5-3 hours. I say, feed him what he wants! I feed ds on demand sometimes he was 5 oz, one time he had 9 ounces! I let him have it bc When I'm hungry I want to eat LOL you know your DC best

At 10 weeks old DS was 16lbs, and I think taking about 35-40oz a day. My ped said I should cut back and I told her she was talking to the wrong person...that is she could convince DS not to cry for more than I would cut back....

As long as your DS is not spitting up alot I would say you are fine...you have to take what your ped says into consideration but at the end of the day you have to decide what is best for your child!

ETA: Now that I read the whole thread it sounds like our peds are giving similar advice, mine also said no cereal until 4 m onths...I used to give him rice in teh bottle at night though

ETS: I just looked it up and DS was taking more like 40-42oz a day, one day he even took 46....but he was sleeping 11:30-6am!

At 2 months old, Landon was 14 lbs 5 oz and eating 7 times per day, ranging from 4 oz - 7 oz (mix of formula and pumped breastmilk).... for a total of 32-37 oz per day. Our ped. said this was perfect.
***** According to similac, a 2-3 month old should get 25-36 oz. of formula per day.... so he is right on target!!!
